JOB SUMMARY

The Relationship Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of corporate and employee engagement partnerships and campaigns. The position will establish, grow, and strengthen relationships with employers and internal influencers to maximize corporate and employee community involvement to meet and exceed revenue goals. Support United Way's commitment to excellent customer service by facilitating communication and relationship-building with community partners and key stakeholders (local organizations, businesses, and individuals). Positions United Way as the primary philanthropic conduit between companies, the communities in which they reside and operate, and individuals through the development of year-round engagement experiences. The position will have a focus on Labor relations and will work with the VP of Labor Relations to develop strong relationships with local Labor Leadership and companies with unionized. employees 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  • Maintain close, positive relationships with the key accounts in assigned portfolio throughout the year, including planning and oversight of the accounts’ annual United Way campaign – focusing on building and maintaining effective relationships.
  • Be a passionate advocate of UWSA mission and be able to advocate amongst our corporate partners and their employees.
  • Oversee employee giving campaigns and create meaningful growth through best practice strategies to grow participation and average gifts.
  • Work with the Individual Giving team to coordinate donor cultivation of individuals within the workplace who have the potential to give major gifts.
  • Drive the strategy and execution around reimagining corporate partnerships and how to engage employees through workplace campaigns, and as individuals to support the work of United Way.
  • Work with the VP, RD to streamline processes and improve ROI on all fundraising activities.
  • Develop strategies to identify, cultivate, and steward current and potential leadership donors (gifts of $500 or more) within assigned portfolio.
  • Identify the philanthropic goals and objectives of the individuals within assigned segments, establishing UWSA as the primary philanthropic resource for the donors in their relationship with the community and strengthening donor loyalty.
  • Assist volunteer identification, recruitment, training, retention, and advancement.
  • Identify, cultivate, and steward donors and prospective donors with the goal of soliciting and closing gifts from individuals in support of organizational priorities.
  • Actively engage donors and prospects through established UWSA events, investment opportunities, volunteer opportunities, and advocacy. Provide appropriate follow-up to move relationships forward.
  • Conduct personal visits to facilitate the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of annual gifts from current and/or prospective donors.
  • Consistently document key conversations with prospects, donors, and corporate partners into UWSA’s customer management database (CRM).
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date information in a database of union leaders and union members participating in employee campaigns, when available.
  • Maintain a solid understanding of United Way programs and initiatives. 
  • Establish and maintain a working relationship between members of organized labor and the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County.
  • Work closely with the VP of Labor Services and VP of Corporate Relations to develop plans to engage unionized employees within United Way corporate partners for better campaigns.
  • Participate in education and training programs and conferences of the AFL-CIO and United Way on topics of mutual interest.
  • Develop and assist in planning volunteer opportunities to establish union volunteer opportunities that demonstrate labor's contribution to United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County.
  • As assigned, will work with the VP of Labor Services to support local labor leaders. 
  • Work with the Building and Construction Trades to assist in developing a program of In-Kind Donations, with the participation of skilled tradesmen/women.
  • Work with colleagues across the organization to develop customized giving proposals for key donors who may have an interest in funding a particular initiative.
  • Develop relationships with the finance and administration staff to ensure that information on campaign reports is provided in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Monitor reports for actual and projected progress to goal for accounts within assigned portfolio and work with the Information Systems team to finalize.
  • Work with and manage Loaned Executives on the management of corporate campaigns and interactions with company contacts.
  • Willingly accept other ancillary or related assignments that will enhance the effectiveness of the organization

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree – required in a related field of study.
  • A Minimum of 2 years of professional work experience is desired, with one or more years of fundraising or sales experience preferred. 
  • Experience in working effectively in multicultural environments.
  • Knowledge of AFL-CIO, Central Labor Council, and local unions is preferred but not required. 
  • Strong relationships in the nonprofit, public and private sectors. 
  • Staff and volunteer management. 
  • Experience in using virtual platforms for presentations and/or setting up virtual meetings.
  • Experience with CRM/database management preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Normal nonprofit office environment with little exposure to dust, noise and extreme temperatures.
  • Extended work on personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator.
  • Reliable transportation required with the ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events locally, routinely and around the state and nationally, occasionally.
  • Monday-Friday, 8:15 am to 4:45 pm work week with occasional evening and weekend hours.
  • Potential to work out of the AFL CIO offices as necessary
