United Way of Palm Beach County is Hiring an Associate Vice President of Mentioring Near Beach, FL

Position Summary

Direct the activities of the Mentor Center Initiative committed to the advancement of quality mentoring programs for youth within Palm Beach County and the broader community. Work in conjunction with community stakeholders and funders to develop the strategic direction required to increase the capacity of mentoring providers. Determine mentor needs, strategies to strengthen local mentoring efforts, and increase the number of quality mentoring relationships.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Work in collaboration with mentoring agency representatives to develop, train and recruit volunteer mentors and programs to establish an effective mentor program network, develop minimum standards for mentor programming, and educate communities on the mentor network.
  • Facilitate the development of a Mentor Partnership Network- a collaborative of local mentoring and youth-service providers working to strengthen and increase the quality mentoring for youth throughout the County. Serve as the network lead for the Florida MENTOR affiliate and national MENTOR organization.
  • Ensures compliance with all contracts with funders and funded partner agencies.
  • Creates plans to implement network wide changes to youth mentoring program delivery based upon national data and local needs.
  • Unites mentoring network program teams to develop shared goals, strategies and innovations for broad investment and impact.
  • Lead the development and execution of a programmatic strategy that continuously improves our impact and is aligned to and ensures the achievement of determined outcomes.
  • Collaborates with community stakeholders, including convening and facilitating meetings and events, and providing professional support to any mentoring committees.
  • Responsible for developing quality standards for screening, selecting, training and supervising mentors and acts as a resource to conduct Level II background screenings for non-profit agencies in Palm Beach County.
  • Responsible for resource development and the leveraging of resources to meet program goals, in collaboration with the Executive Vice President of Community Investments. This may involve cultivation and solicitation of corporate and foundation support through developing grant or major gift proposals.
  • Implements a mentoring strategic plan that includes mentor recruitment, marketing, communications, public relations, policy, training, and technical assistance to mentoring providers, financial and in-kind resource development, and data collection and tracking.
  • Forges strong relationships with organizations through the establishment of a multi-agency mentor training collaboration.
  • Oversees mentoring training and contributes to the creation and delivery of mentoring curricula and training.
  • Provide technical assistance and training for mentor program professionals and emerging mentoring programs. Provide an on-going mechanism and forum through which mentor program staff can share information, network, and establish genuine collaborative efforts.
  • Act as liaison among child and family service agencies to coordinate and assess mentor related needs.
  • Advocacy role which includes the annual mentoring summit Day on the Hill- scheduling visits with elected officials and coordinating participant's attendance.
  • Oversees volunteer opportunities for mentor network in conjunction with United Way's volunteer department.
  • Assist, as assigned by senior management, with the organization's disaster response efforts.
  • Perform other duties as opportunities are presented and/or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Sciences or closely related field
  • A minimum of seven years' experience in program development, management, capacity building, and overseeing grants, preferred
  • Budget oversight knowledge (contracts, revenue, operating expenses, financial forecasting, etc.)
  • Working with volunteers
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements listed above
  • Ability to provide superior customer service to funding partners, agencies, volunteers, staff and community members
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks concurrently, implementing and completing projects within stated timelines
  • Demonstrate initiative in following through independently with projects and tasks
  • Demonstrate leadership abilities and support of organizational objectives and initiatives
  • Demonstrate creative problem solving
  • Demonstrate commitment to professional and organizational development
  • Valid Florida Driver's License
