POSITION SUMMARY

The Finance Specialist position provides expertise and performs complex clerical, bookkeeping, and accounting assignments, prepares accounting statements and financial reports. He/She completes accounting entries accurately and timely. He/She provides organizational leadership regarding grant accounting, quality work and customer service by valuing internal and external customers and cooperating productively with other employees, seeking ways to improve the quality and timeliness of work.

Key Responsibilities
· Prepares financial reports and various accounting statements· Posts journal entries to general ledger

· Functions as primary liaison for potential Finance contractors and United Way Leadership

· Accounts Payables/Accounts Receivable duties

· Processes payroll and prepares necessary payroll reports

· Proofs accounting reports for clerical accuracy

· Allocates expenditures to correct accounts according to departmental procedures

· Assist with the preparation of annual audits and required Federal/State/Local tax reports and filings

· Performs other related duties as assigned

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

These specifications are general guidelines based on the minimum experience normally considered essential to the satisfactory performance of this position. Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required

Non-Profit experience highly preferred

Three years plus accounting experience demonstrating a clear understanding of all areas of bookkeeping and general ledger entries.

Ability to effectively work in virtual and on site office environments with minimal supervision and recommendations to prioritize work and outline steps necessary to complete a project.

Excellent knowledge of accounting, Microsoft Word and Excel for Office365

QuickBooks experience required

MIP Abila Fund Accounting experience highly preferred- Pay differential available for highly qualified candidate.

Demonstrated research and analytical skills.

Ability to think strategically in the development of process improvements and policy enhancements.

Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize work and outline the steps necessary to complete a project and work in a team environment.

Flexibility to handle several on-going projects.

Ability to work well under pressure and to set and meet deadlines.

Strong proficiency in accounting software applications.

Non-profit background and knowledge of United Way policies and processes for campaign and financial reporting extremely helpful.

Experience with non-profit audits and requirements a plus. Pay differential available for highly qualified candidate.

This position provides expertise and support insuring accounting entries are completed accurately and timely. It provides organizational leadership regarding grant accounting. It also ensures quality work and customer service by valuing internal and external customers and cooperating productively with other employees, seeking ways to improve the quality and timeliness of work.

The incumbent in the course of performing this position spends time writing, typing, speaking, listening, lifting (up to 25 pounds), carrying, seeing (such as close, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and adjusted focus), sitting, pulling, walking, standing, squatting, kneeling, and reaching.

The incumbent for this position may operate any or all of the following: telephone, cellular telephone, copy machine, fax machine, calculator, personal computer, related printers, and other related office equipment.

The incumbent in this position must be able to read and interpret documents or instruments; perform highly detailed work; assist or guide problem solving; perform complex mathematical functions; conduct meetings and presentations, prepare written communication; perform highly specialized analytical reasoning; withstand stress; and handle multiple, concurrent tasks and constant interruptions.
