Personal Care Assistant (PCA)
Job Summary:
An individual who, under professional supervision, provides assistance with nutritional and environmental support, personal hygiene, feeding and dressing to clients in their residence.
Organizational Relationship: Reports to the Nursing Supervisor
Risk Of Occupational Exposure To Blood Borne Pathogens: B: limited exposure
Qualifications:
1. Successful completion of a nurse aide training and competency evaluation program pursuant to the requirements of 42 CFR Part 483, Subpart D as revised or recoded, if applicable;
or
2. Successful completion of a competency examination for nurse aides recognized by the department;
or
3. Successful completion of a health care or personal care credentialing program recognized and approved by the department;
or
4. Successful completion or progress in the completion of a 40 hour training program provided by a private home care provider, which addresses at least the following areas:
a. Ambulation and transfer of clients, including positioning;
b. Assistance with bathing, toileting, grooming, shaving, dental care, dressing, and eating;
c. Basic first aid and CPR;
d. Caring for clients with special conditions and needs so long as the services are within the scope of the tasks authorized to be performed demonstration;
e. Home management;
f. Home safety and sanitation;
g. Infection control in the home;
h. Related activities to include the taking of vital signs; and
i. Proper nutrition.
Speaks, reads, and writes and able to communicate effectively in English.
Must have current CPR certification and Criminal Background check.
5. Never have shown by credible evidence, to have abused, neglected, sexually assaulted, exploited or deprived any person or to have subjected any person to serious injury as a result of intentional or grossly negligent misconduct.
6. Have not made any material false statements concerning qualifications requirements either to the Department or the provider.
Responsibilities:
- Personal Care - assists with:
- Routine skin care/ lotion massage, Positioning and turning of patents that cannot assist self- in bed and chair, Elimination, Assist with eating, dressing walking and toileting
- Homemaking - assists with:
the client uses.
PCA’S ARE REQUIRED TO:
or significant change in client’s condition.
Essential Administrative Functions:
State regulations.
Functional Abilities:
Able to lift, turn and transfer clients weighting up to 200 pounds.
Able to carry bundles upstairs weighing up to 10 pounds.
Able to stoop and bend.
Able to travel to prospective client’s place of residence.
Able to hear and effectively communicate in English.
