Following physicians' orders, the Pharmacist compounds and dispenses medications and other pharmaceuticals. Position responsibilities include:

* Maintains strong knowledge of hospital policies and government regulations and dispenses accordingly.

* Consults with physicians and nursing staff regarding patient reactions, errors and complaints.

* Determines and consults on possible drug interactions.

* Assists in the supervision and training of pharmacy personnel.

* Participates in Drug Utilization Review.

* Assists with quality improvement initiatives, inventory and ordering of pharmaceuticals.

* Monitors, records and communicates as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems.

* Utilizes knowledge of age specific needs of patient in performance of duties and responsibilities.

* Orients and mentors new staff members.

* Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

* Fulfills responsibilities of Pharmacy Manager in their absence.

Required skills:

* Current license to practice pharmacy in the State of Tennessee

* Hospital experience preferred

* Demonstrate competent knowledge of the development needs of adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

* Knowledge of state and federal pharmacy laws.

* Must possess ability to prioritize responsibilities and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

* Possess the ability to deal tactfully with all types of personnel, medical staff and the public.

* Possess the ability to make independent decisions.

* Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.

* Assists with the initiation, development, maintenance, and execution of rules and regulations pertaining to professional policies set by the Pharmacy Department.

* Performs other related duties as assigned.

* Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of materials and/or equipment up to 50 lbs
