United Performance Metals is Hiring an Annealing Operators Near Wallingford, CT

United Performance Metals (UPM) is opening a new location of our company located in Wallingford, CT. UPM is a worldwide distributor of specialty metals supporting aerospace, medical, power generation, and the space industry to name a few. The Annealing Line Operator plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the annealing line. This multifaceted position involves operating and maintaining equipment to managing materials and contributing to team training efforts. Additionally, the role encompasses tasks related to packing materials, loading/unloading trucks, performing light maintenance, and upholding high standards of housekeeping.
Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 6:00am - 2:30pm

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate and oversee the Annealing Line, ensuring efficient and safe production processes.
    • Responsible for the department's daily work load.
    • Load an unloading coils
    • Setting atmosphere
    • Setting temperature and speeds
    • Tension controls
    • Weld strips together for continuous run
  • Check for surface defects
  • Separate non-conforming materials
  • Conduct tolerance checks to guarantee product quality and adherence to specifications.
  • Perform light maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Responsible for shutting down power and/or following any lockout/tag out procedures that pertain to your area.
  • Enter data into the ERP system to maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and pallet jacks with precision and safety.
  • Package material and prepare orders to be shipped.
  • Load and unload trucks, optimizing logistics and inventory management.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment through regular housekeeping.
  • Manage warehouse supplies.
  • Assist in the training of new team members, sharing knowledge and best practices.
  • Responsible for maintaining visual board.
  • Continuously adhere to safety standards and policies (UPM and OSHA)

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); with at least two years related experience operating machinery and forklifts and setting controls
  • Must possess the ability to use and operate the following equipment and tools: Coil Cart, Micrometer, Calipers, Scale, Fork Truck, Bander, Bander Cutters, Side Loader and computer.
