This position is located in the Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS). Subprogramme 2 of the Office is mandated to mobilize and coordinate international support and resources for the effective implementation of the Vienna Programme of Action for Landlocked Developing Countries, enhance its monitoring and follow-up and raise awareness and advocate with respect to the special needs of landlocked developing countries. The incumbent reports to the Senior Programme Management Officer (Subprogramme 2), under the overall guidance of the Chief of Policy Development, Coordination, Monitoring and Reporting Service, and under the overall guidance of the Director. ResponsibilitiesAdvanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in economics, international development or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work ExperienceA minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, trade and trade facilitation policy formulation, application of economic principles in development programmes or related area are required.
Experience in international development, including research, programme evaluation and policy development, private sector development and working experience dealing with the issues relevant to LLDCs and LDCs is desirable.
English and French are working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English, (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
