Summary:

The primary purpose of the Clinical Specialist position is to function as a clinical resource and liaison for residents living in Home for the Aged (HFA) and Independent Living (IL) as well as provide clinical support for the staff giving care to residents, in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our community. The position will also ensure the unique needs of each resident are met with the highest degree of quality care. The Clinical Specialist serves as a liaison between residents and their medical providers. They are responsible to coordinate, assess, implement, and assist with the care of the residents.

Job Functions

  • Provides clinical guidance to the Resident Assistants (RA’s) and Medication Technicians (MT’s) on the performance of their duties as outlined in their job description.
  • Assures that regulatory standards and company policies and procedures are followed by the Catered Living department.
  • Responds to emergency calls for residents in Home for Aging and Independent Living areas.
  • Coaches, mentors and provides onsite training to new RA’s and MT’s.
  • Monitors treatments, injections, or medications to residents as ordered by the physician.
  • Ensures documentation is informative, descriptive, and reflects the care provided to the resident, as well as the resident’s response to care.
  • Communicates and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to make decisions that ensure resident well-being is achieved and meets regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Completes required administrative and clinical tasks as delegated by the Clinical Manager.
  • Operates in the role of the Designated Manager on Duty in the absence of the Neighborhood Guides.
  • Encourages each resident’s autonomy and dignity by communicating in a respectful and sensitive manner according to their needs.
  • Works collaboratively with Catered Living leadership to ensure the department is adequately staffed, delegating and reassigning staff to best meet the needs of the residents.

Position Qualifications: 

  • Must have knowledge of procedures related to medication administration, documentation, performing and scheduling diagnostic tests.
  • Must possess an up-to-date CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years’ experience working with the elderly
  • Completion of courses in geriatrics
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Medical Assistant certificate from an accredited school strongly preferred.
