Psychiatric Float Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Holyoke, MA

Company: United Healthcare System

Job Type: 13 Weeks

Shift: Evenings (3p-1130p) (every other weekend/every other holiday); charge required (considered to be included in all-inclusive rate)

Job Summary

The Psychiatric Float Registered Nurse (RN) in Massachusetts is a versatile healthcare professional who provides psychiatric nursing care across various units or facilities within the healthcare organization. This role requires flexibility, adaptability, and strong psychiatric nursing skills to provide comprehensive care to patients with mental health disorders in diverse settings.

  • Patient Assessment and Care Planning:
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients with mental health disorders, including psychiatric history, symptoms, and psychosocial factors.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans based on patient assessments, diagnoses, and treatment goals.
  • Participate in treatment planning meetings, care conferences, and interdisciplinary rounds to discuss patient progress and treatment adjustments.
  • Medication Administration and Management:
    • Administer psychiatric medications, including oral medications, injections, and intravenous (IV) infusions, as prescribed by healthcare providers.
    • Monitor patients for medication effectiveness, side effects, and adverse reactions, and communicate findings to the healthcare team.
    • Educate patients and families about medication regimens, potential side effects, and strategies for medication adherence and self-management.
  • Therapeutic Interventions and Support:
    • Implement therapeutic interventions, such as individual counseling, group therapy, and crisis intervention, to address patients' psychological and emotional needs.
    • Provide supportive counseling, psychoeducation, and coping skills training to patients and families to promote recovery and wellness.
    • Utilize de-escalation techniques and crisis management skills to manage behavioral disturbances and prevent escalation of aggression or violence.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of nursing assessments, interventions, and patient responses in electronic health records (EHR) or paper charts.
    • Document medication administration, treatment modalities, patient observations, and significant events according to facility policies and regulatory requirements.
    • Report changes in patient status, concerns, and incidents to the appropriate healthcare providers and document communication with interdisciplinary team members.
  • Patient and Family Education:
    • Educate patients and families about mental health disorders, treatment options, community resources, and strategies for relapse prevention.
    • Provide information on coping skills, stress management techniques, and healthy lifestyle choices to support recovery and enhance overall well-being.
    • Collaborate with social workers, case managers, and community agencies to facilitate referrals and access to additional support services as needed.

Experience

  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Massachusetts.
  • Minimum of 1 years of clinical experience in psychiatric nursing, with experience in acute care, inpatient, or behavioral health settings preferred.
  • Strong assessment, therapeutic communication, and crisis intervention skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic healthcare environment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing patient populations, unit assignments, and care needs.
  • Commitment to professional growth and development through continuing education and training in psychiatric nursing practices.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Hourly Pay: $50 to $70 hr on w2.
