Job Description

United is currently seeking an entry level design engineer from the Civil discipline to join our growing team in our Greenwood Village, CO office. The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-discipline team of engineers and designers, supporting our Energy Delivery Group in the design of utility substations, high voltage transmission lines, and distribution systems.

The successful candidates will work with experienced engineers and designers to complete engineering assignments of limited to moderate complexity. They will be responsible for a variety of engineering tasks in the initial planning and design phase for projects under the direct supervision of a Supervising Civil (Structural) Engineer.

The design engineer will interact with other disciplines, project support groups, vendors, and client representatives as appropriate on assigned projects and is responsible for initiating and developing engineering drawings through completion in conformance with the requirements, applicable codes, and design criteria established by the project.

Minimum Requirements

  • The successful candidate would have obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from a 4 year ABET accredited college or university and would have completed coursework in Structural Steel and Reinforced Concrete Design.
  • The successful candidate should have experience with 2D CAD software such as AutoDesk AutoCAD or Bentley MicroStation, and competency with Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel.
  • Excellent oral communication and technical writing skills are essential, and the ability to travel as required.
  • The successful candidate must be a U.S. Citizen or have authorization to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available.

Preferred Requirements

  • The preferred candidate will have Internship or Work-Study experience relating to power engineering, a M.S. in Civil Engineering, have an EIT/FE Certification with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • The preferred candidates will have post-graduation professional engineering experience, preferably with power generation or distribution. Previous experience with an engineering firm in the government, or the oil & gas industry is also preferred.
