United Community Options of Miami is Hiring a Direct Support Instructor (URGENT HIRE) Near Miami, FL

About us

United Community Options serves children and adults with a wide range of needs and abilities including physical, intellectual, and neurological disabilities, as well as developmental delays and developmental disabilities, such as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, Prader-Willi syndrome, epilepsy, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and those who are technology dependent or medically fragile. In addition, we serve typically developing children and adolescents in many of our programs.

URGENT HIRE

We are seeking compassionate, caring, dedicated individuals to provide Direct Support services to our consumers in our various group homes across Miami Dade County.

  • Works in a team like manner.
  • Reports absences at least 2 hours before beginning of shift.
  • Completes timecards accurately.
  • Is safety conscious at all times
  • Handles all intra-office mail properly.
  • Attends all meetings and trainings as scheduled and keeps discussions confidential.
  • Leaves work area clean each day.
  • Obtains and provides receipts for all petty cash.
  • Does not borrow or loan out residents’ property or money, and does not accept gifts from residents or their families without approval.
  • Does not receive more than 3 emergency calls/beeps during shift, and keeps calls to less than 3 minutes.
  • Treats residents in a respectful and positive manner, and in a proper tone of voice.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all resident information, and respects residents’ privacy.
  • Encourages appropriate interactions with residents in the home and in the community.
  • Offers residents verbal assistance first, engages residents in conversation regularly throughout shift, and follows established guidelines for assisting residents in the bathroom.
  • Encourages residents to participate in table games, and plays the games with them.
  • Submits suggestions or info for newsletter.
  • Handles seizures appropriately and completes seizure reports accurately ASAP the same day.
  • Follows established emergency procedures.
  • Provides first aid accurately.
  • Is prepared for outings (i.e. sunscreen, hats, appropriate dress, etc.).
  • Monitors residents’ medical conditions and documents concerns appropriately.
  • Follows Universal Precautions.
  • Implements IPP programs accurately.
  • Implements behavior programs accurately and notifies CBA when restrictive measures are utilized.
  • Completes data for behavior programs accurately.
  • Utilizes T.E.A.M. techniques when necessary.
  • Completes UIR’s accurately, completely and promptly when necessary.
  • Completes Daily Shift Report in detail.
  • Reads and follows communication log books at the beginning of the shift.
  • Reports building and vehicle maintenance issues appropriately.
  • Serves meals according to portions indicated on the menu and assists residents during meals (i.e. cut meat, feed resident, etc.).
  • Eats meals with residents.
  • Offers alternative meal to residents who do not wish to eat meal served.
  • Prepares and handles food appropriately and stores leftovers in covered containers.
  • Assists residents with laundry.
  • Fuels van when ½ full and writes van or tag # on charge slip.
  • Observes all vehicle transportation guidelines (i.e. completing mileage log, ensuring seatbelts are fastened appropriately, ensuring no eating, drinking or smoking on the van, etc.).
  • Operates hydraulic lift safely and appropriately and uses wheelchair locks at all times (if equipped).
  • Calls police and supervisor immediately in case of vehicle Accident.
  • Interacts with consumers in an appropriate and positive manner, fostering independence.
  • Implements and/or supports behavioral interventions as recommended.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
