WHAT WE’RE OFFERING

The Plant Accountant is responsible for maintaining the continuing property records for the organization. Additionally, this position is responsible for the maintenance of work orders, preparing property tax filings, and performing various other plant accounting procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include the following, but other duties may be assigned as required.

  • Reconciles all plant and inventory accounts monthly from subsidiary ledgers to general ledger.
  • Assists with preparation of grant reimbursement requests and compliance reports for federal and state funded programs.
  • Ensures work orders capture all related labor and materials and are closed timely and accurately.
  • Reviews work orders and continuing property records to verify property tax locations are accurate.
  • Records retirements in the continuing property records monthly and ensures proper coding in general ledger.
  • Allocates overhead spreads across work orders monthly.
  • Prepares monthly depreciation entries for all plant accounts.
  • Prepares GL coding for contractor invoices to ensure accurate entry into general ledger.
  • Enters inventory adjustments for contractor material usage into general ledger.
  • Reviews timesheet entries to service orders or work orders to ensure time is properly expensed or capitalized.
  • Prepares yearly property tax filings to the various local entities.
  • Assists with the preparation of items for the annual financial audit, providing documentation for any requests and explanations for any account variances that are material.
  • Participates in ongoing educational opportunities in order to maintain current knowledge of issues as they relate to accounting standards, regulatory procedures and potential reform, and products and services.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • BS or BA degree from a 4-year college or university, with major in Accounting or Business-related field or relevant work experience of 5 years required.
  • PC Skills – requires an advanced understanding of accounting software, with advanced word processing and email skills, along with the ability to review and analyze reports in company systems. Must be proficient using Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to touch-type at 40 WPM and use a 10-key required.
  • Demonstrates high ethical standards, strong work ethic with an emphasis on team commitment, showing respect for others, the ability to acknowledge and build on others’ ideas, and support for group decisions.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills (oral and written), including the ability to effectively articulate complex situations to colleagues with varying degrees of accounting and regulatory knowledge.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion.
  • Must have the ability to solve problems with patience and a positive approach.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented and organized with the ability to work efficiently to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to operate office equipment, including personal computers, phone systems, and software applications. Specifically, maintain advanced knowledge of Financials platform within Innovative Systems.
  • Knowledge of intermediate level mathematics required, including the ability to add, subtract, and balance a balance sheet.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
