About the role
At Unit21, we strive to protect businesses against adversaries engaging in money laundering, fraud, and other sophisticated risks by offering a no-code toolset to model, detect, and remediate suspicious activity. Our customers range from large Fortune 500 companies to high-potential, pre-launch startups. In 2020, customers uncovered over $80m in laundered money using our software.
We are looking for our Director of IT to develop, implement, and manage infrastructure, security, policies, governance, software, hardware, and other IT-related aspects for a series B company. This position is a hands-on technical/management role reporting to the CTO and is operationally focused on security and IT to meet the business objectives of the organization. The Director of IT will plan, coordinate, direct and design IT-related activities, as well as provide administrative direction and support for daily operational activities. They will work closely with decision-makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the company. Responsible for the management, strategy, and execution of the tools and software of our organization, the Director of IT will also oversee technical projects aligned with our strategic goals and develop technology policies to be administered throughout the company and act as an expert in multiple facets of security, including SaaS Infosec, Appsec, Cloud Security, Corporate Security and incident response.
The Director of IT will have the following key responsibilities but not limited to:
- Own all aspects of corporate security, network security, as well as physical security
- Provide leadership, guidance, and oversight of activities related to IT’s Cloud and Infrastructure (CI) team in support of organizational and company mission, goals, and objectives
- Oversees environmental modifications, implementation of new tools and processes and/or upgrades to the existing CI environment
- Develops and justifies an annual budget for CI including both operational and capital expenses.
- Responsible for management decisions regarding IT CI budget, productivity, and financial reports.
- Management of cloud security, network and architecture design, threat
modeling, vulnerability assessments and security operations for the company
- Define and execute the strategic roadmap for the IT team which includes general tech enablement for company personnel, corporate security, and strategic infrastructural projects
- Lead efforts to standardize operations and develop integration plans to assess upgrade needs, maintenance, and operating level risks
- Lead the planning and hands-on implementation of IT initiatives as well as management of core day-to-day services
- Optimize management, configuration, integration and availability of existing IT systems and infrastructure
- Oversee and manage the systems, structures, and procedures for the onboarding and offboarding of employees, as it relates to IT hardware and software
- Establish and maintain service level agreements (SLA's) to ensure IT function meet or exceed stakeholder expectations while adhering to compliance, financial reporting, and security controls
- Communicate with key business and project stakeholders to understand requirements, keep them advised of project progress and overall IT services status
- Oversees IT security and compliance efforts, establishing controls and processes in support of data security and other relevant regulatory requirements
- Develop and maintain a cybersecurity roadmap for enhancing IT security, minimizing risk, and improving data privacy protections
- Regularly perform system access reviews, collect audit evidence, maintain documentation and monitor security controls to support audits
- Effectively manage relationships with vendors, outsourcers, and consultants including contracts, service agreements, and escalations while maintaining negotiated service levels to optimize delivery and cost
- Maintain IT contingency plans
- Manage overall budget for IT expenditures
- Oversee maintenance of hardware and software used throughout the Company
- Establish key performance indicators (KPI's), objectives and key results (OKR's) metrics
- Maintain strong emotional intelligence throughout aggressive deadlines, changing priorities, and evolving operations, as common to startup environments
What we’re looking for
- 10 years experience in IT and proven experience as a Director of IT, Head of IT or similar role
- Experience in building and managing IT infrastructure, systems, teams, services, corporate security in high-growth companies
- Experience with enterprise security governance and policy
- Experience with technologies including server, desktop, storage, data center, network architecture and SaaS apps
- Prior experience growing and supporting the internal IT presence during rapid scaling phases
- Demonstrated experience executing on organizational vision and strategy
- Knowledge of asset management methodologies
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, ability to communicate conceptual ideas, engineering rationale, and technical challenges both verbally and visually, to a wide range of audiences
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to work to deadlines and successfully lead multiple initiatives
- Ability to maintain steady leadership throughout aggressive deadlines, changing priorities, and evolving operations
