POSITION SUMMARY:
The Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) Coordinator is responsible for leading an incident free culture while protecting employees and the environment and employing proactive tools to ensure compliance. They will implement and maintain company policies adhering to local, state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations at their assigned repair shop. Involved in the design and development of facilities, work areas and work procedures and make environmental, health and safety recommendations accordingly. Responsible for overseeing the preparation, maintenance, and updating of environmental policy and procedure manuals. Ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization.
Primary responsibilities and/or essential functions include, but are not limited to:
Conduct on-site SHE audits
Lead daily shop walk throughs
Deliver employee SHE training
Engage and lead employees to embrace safety as a core value
Collect and prepare SHE reports to Shop Management
Review and ensure compliance with environmental permits
Review and implement corporate safety initiatives and programs
Perform root cause analysis on all significant events
Participate in and support quality projects and initiatives to ensure that the company achieves its goals
METRICS TO MEASURE PERFORMANCE:
Technology 20%
Use technology to deliver relevant and timely SHE data to shop management.

Act or assist as a SHE subject matter for innovation projects.
Process Improvements 35%
Reduce lagging safety performance through performance of relevant / targeted leading indicators.
Capital Project 25%
Act or assist as a SHE subject matter for capital projects.

HABITS OF THE SUCCESSFUL SAFETY, HEALTH & ENVIRONMENTAL COORDINATOR:
Conduct facility walks on each shift identifying safety, health and environmental concerns
Spend time on off shifts
Promote hazard identification and recording of near misses
Attend supervisory Toolbox Talks
Promote stop work authority
Lead safety recognition program
Work to engrain safety culture from top down
Engage with employees to develop transparent communication
Work with employees to perform and understand work processes and hazards
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related field required
Minimum of 2-5 years of related work experience in railcar repair, heavy manufacturing, or related industrial environment.
Preferred qualifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of Federal, State and Local environmental regulations
Strong analytical and data gathering skills
Project management: can set priorities, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects concurrently
Tenacity for identifying opportunities for improvements and developing solutions
Detail orientated with the ability to multi-task and manage time effectively
Ability to sit or stand for an extended period
