Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County (UGM-TC) has an immediate opening for a Child & Family Clinical Therapist. The Clinical Therapist responsibilities include:

  • Providing high quality trauma informed, two generational counseling services utilizing a battery of evidence-based clinical modalities, including but not limited to: Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), Trauma - Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, etc. 
  • Establishing a positive, trusting rapport with parents and their children.
  • Conducting ongoing assessment of the needs of children, youth, and their parents; coordinating clinical services with external agencies as determined appropriate; and developing treatment plans. 
  • Providing in-person trauma informed individual and group counseling sessions with adults and children using TF-CBT, play therapy, or other therapeutic interventions as determined by the needs of the child cultivating resilience and healing.
  • Proactively engaging parents in the treatment of the child(ren) to promote enhanced attachment, decreased symptoms, and improved safety.
  • Facilitating psycho-education groups for teenagers and parenting classes for parents. 
  • Evaluating progress using identified data collection tools. 
  • Participating in scheduled individual staffing meetings, team meetings, cross collaboration and multi-disciplinary team meetings.
  • Maintaining open and transparent communication with Director of Clinical Counseling Services or next level of authority.
  • Maintaining case records and client notes in a timely manner by entering case notes, telephone consultations, referrals, and other information in the agency’s client information system. 

Required Qualifications

 A master’s degree from an accredited university or college with a major in counseling, social work, or psychology; and one of the following clinical licensures: LCSW, LMSW, LMFT, LMFT-Associate, LPC, LPC-Intern licensure with at least 3 years of experience providing clinical counseling to adults and/or children.

Preferred Qualifications

Trained in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI). Prior education and utilization of an attachment-based, trauma-informed approach, at least 5 years’ experience in child welfare.

Qualified candidates will have:

  • Knowledge of and experience in continuous process improvement concepts and practices.
  • Emotional intelligence and empathy, as demonstrated by the ability to identify with and understand another person’s point of view and ask the right questions to determine the focus for treatment.
  • Communication as demonstrated by the ability to convey, both verbally and in writing, detailed directions, describe processes in understandable terms, and provide concise documentation of the therapeutic process.
  • Active listening skills, as demonstrated by interpreting verbal and non-verbal cues to determine the treatment focus and understand information from colleagues and other mental health professionals.
  • Cultural competency is demonstrated by being sensitive to diverse ideas, views, and beliefs and seeking to learn more about others while understanding one’s background and beliefs.
  • Boundary setting is demonstrated by setting boundaries in the clinician-client relationship and establishing a good work-life balance.
