Union for Reform Judaism is Hiring a Maintenance Associate Near Washington, DC

POSITION TITLE: MAINTENANCE ASSOCIATE

Location: Washington, D.C.

Organization: Union for Reform Judaism

Employment Type: Part Time, Non-Exempt Hourly, Labor Union)

Department: Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism

Reporting to: Associate Director, Religious Action Center

Start Date: As soon as possible

Salary Range: $26-$30/hour

Schedule: 20 hours/week (M-F, 4 hours/day)

Level/Salary Grade: Operational Contributor (Advanced) / A

THE ROLE

The Union for Reform Judaism’s (URJ) Religious Action Center seeks a Maintenance Associate to oversee daily building maintenance, custodial duties, and building systems. The Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism is housed in a 100 -year-old, three-story converted residence off DuPont Circle.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Maintenance Associate reports to the Associate Director and is responsible for the following:

  • Ensure all building systems and infrastructure operate properly. Performs routine maintenance on building systems. Identifies equipment or machines in need of repair. Troubleshoot issues to determine necessary repairs.

  • Work with vendors and contractors (heat, A/C, boiler, roofer, landscaper, etc) to maintain building functionality as a professional workspace.

  • Maintain grounds, landscaping, and building cleanliness. The cleanliness of the building is also supported by a professional bi-weekly cleaning company.

  • Daily building maintenance, including small repairs cosmetic upkeep, and basic custodial duties.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

WHO YOU ARE & KEYS TO SUCCESS (THE MUST-HAVES):

To be successful in this job, you excel in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of Building Systems. Understanding of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and Stormwater Management.

  • Maintenance Skills & Attention to Detail. Experience repairing small jobs and using equipment and supplies. Ability to identify cosmetic, structural, or operational issues and address them effectively.

  • Collaboration. Able to establish and build strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues and vendors. Ability to work closely with a suite of vendors who provide essential services to maintain our building, including heat/AC, boiler, landscaper, elevator, roofer, etc

  • Flexibility. Ability to be agile and flexible regarding duties and responsibilities. Able to manage unexpected challenges and deal with unexpected events (leaks, breaks, weather issues) that impact the building and work toward quick and effective solutions.

  • REDI Experience (Racial Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion). Willingness to prioritize and execute Racial Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (i.e., ableism, LGBTQIA Inclusion, antiracism, etc.) priorities. Willingness to treat people from all backgrounds with respect and dignity.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Occasional evening or weekend work

  • Physical Requirements: Prolonged bending, standing, walking, and lifting.
