Union County College is Hiring a Paraprofessional Tutor/Supervisor Pool Near Cranford, NJ
Must be able to tutor in subject(s) while overseeing and maintaining order in the Academic Learning Centers. In the absence of the Assistant Director of the Academic Learning Centers, the Coordinator, or the Head Tutor, will assume responsibility of the ALC and perform all the tasks associated with the job. Act as a liaison between the Assistant Director and the tutoring staff, and assume responsibility for many of the minor problems and situations that arise daily.
Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities
Tutor in at least one subject with confidence. Assist and direct students who come to the ALC for help and guidance.
Act as Supervisor of the ALC and maintain oversight of the tutors as well as the tutees.
Answer any questions or address any problems the tutors may have.
Check the punctuality and attendance of the tutors.
Maintain an atmosphere in the ALC that is conductive to good learning and tutoring.
Evaluate Peer Tutors at mid semester.
Attend and provide input and ideas at weekly staff meetings.
Help coordinate, participate, and plan tutor training sessions.
Assist in coordinating end-of-semester activities.
Education Requirements
Associates Degree required or graduate of Union College LPN certificate program required.
Experience
Previous experience working at the Academic Learning Centers.
Competencies and Skills Required
Ability to be assertive and capable of supervising with authority in a fast-paced environment.
Must have good communication skills and the ability to deal tactfully and courteously with students of all ages and nationalities as well as faculty and staff.
Basic knowledge of computers.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.
Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
Some travel required.
Salary
$18.00 per hour

Terms of Employment
Part Time position, not to exceed 25 hours per week; Academic Learning Centers – Cranford, Elizabeth, and Plainfield Campuses. Flexible schedule to meet department needs. Some evening, weekends, and extended hours will be required. Ability and willingness to travel on short notice to all on and off- campus sites as needed by the college. Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies. Position will be terminated upon expiration of grant funding
