Our Long Island Store locations are currently seeking an experienced Deli Bench Manager for its stores. This individual is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the entire Deli Department within SEVERAL locations & travel is required. Responsible for the staff within the Deli Department with regards to schedules, training, hiring and monitoring performance, this position will provide daily, weekly and monthly counts and reports. This position will be based out of our Melville Headquarters.

Responsibilities

• Supervise employees in various duties such as cooking, serving, packaging, and operating counters
• Manage product storage, maintenance and rotation of products to avoid any damages or spoilages
• Assist in preparation of inventory and budgets
• Analyze profit and loss statements and recommend improvements to meet department goals
• Schedule and assign work for associates on daily basis
• Assist in interviewing, hiring and training associates
• Provide training to staff on company policies and sales guidelines
• Respond to queries and complaints from both customers and employees
• Ensure employees follow company policies and store rules
• Coordinate with employees to operate the Deli counter to meet the needs of our customers, assisting in all daily operations of the department as needed
• Develop promotion programs to attract customers to sale items within the deli departments, working closely with our Deli Managers
• Ensure that products are properly labeled with prices and dates
• Monitor and maintain stock inventory levels to avoid over and under stock problems
• Interact politely with clients while solving problems related to sales, dissatisfied service and issues regarding store operation
• Operate all food preparation machines and equipment
• Receive, unload and stock the food items
• Ensure that facility is maintained neat, clean and safe
• Other duties and functions as assigned

Requirements

• HS Diploma or equivalent
• A minimum of 5 years of experience working in a fast paced deli within a food store environment
• In depth knowledge of the full operations of a deli, staff, hiring, training, inventory, storage, cutting, customer service, and all other functions
• Must have working knowledge of placing orders, different types of meats/cheeses within the deli in addition to deli salad dishes
• Excellent oral and written communication skills are required

Working Conditions

• Most of the time is spent moving about continuously on hard surfaces. There may be a need to frequently position oneself to examine and/or scan merchandise, including bending, climbing, crawling, handling, pulling, reaching, and stooping.
• May require lifting objects up to 50 pounds. May require lifting and moving heavy and/or awkward objects more than 50 pounds with assistance.
• Usually in a comfortable indoor environment surrounded by moving machinery and/or loud equipment that may require shouting in order to be heard. There could be exposure to temperature extremes from freezers, ovens, and/or coolers.
• There may be occasional exposure to cleaning agents, sharp objects/industrial equipment necessary to perform job duties and functions.
