Job Summary:
This is an entry-level position for an enrollee in the UNC Health Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program (MAAP). The medical assistant apprentice is an on-the-job training program designed to teach the new employee routine administrative and clinical skills in the outpatient clinic setting. The medical assistant apprentice will provide support to providers and other healthcare team members. Works under the supervision of an assigned journeyman, and under the general direction of the designated manager/supervisor. The UNC Health MAAP is a training program approved by Apprenticeship NC. The employee must meet all terms of the MAAP commitment agreement.

Our Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program (MAAP) will have Apprentice opportunities in the regional areas listed below. This position will be a full-time, 40 hour a week role with Monday-Friday traditional business hours. When applying, please select the geographic area you would be most comfortable traveling within.

Job Responsibilities:
1. Performs rooming and/or intake process including vital signs, height, weight, and data collection related to patient’s reason for visit.
2. Collect patient and family data, including medical and social history. Review the patient’s current medication list, allergies, and preferred pharmacy.
3. Assists the provider as directed during treatments, examinations, and procedures. Collect specimens and perform phlebotomy. Administer medications under a designated manager/supervisor.
4. Performs tests, such as EKG, and eye exams, under a designated manager/supervisor. Review the patient record to determine whether the patient requires any routine health screenings.
5. Ensures exam/procedure room contains appropriate supplies, equipment, forms, and educational materials are available and ready for use during the visit/procedure. Prepares, cleans, stocks, and maintains exam and treatment rooms. Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
6. Provide the patient with after-visit, follow-up, self-care, or procedural instructions and/or educational materials as directed.
7. Assists with patient registration, check-in/check-out, appointment scheduling, and scheduling of tests and treatments. Answers clinic telephone and assists in-basket under designated manager/supervisor.

$17 per hour in Triangle areas
$15 per hour in Non-Triangle areas
