About the Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) Educator plays a crucial role in supporting the professional development of new graduate RNs and newly hired RNs within our healthcare system. The RN Educator will focus on program development, education, and workflow optimization to enhance efficiency, quality, and overall performance. Key responsibilities include:

New Grad RN Support:
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and clinical support to new graduate RNs as they transition into their roles within the organization.
- Develop and facilitate orientation programs tailored to the needs of new graduates, ensuring a smooth transition and integration into the healthcare team.
- Conduct regular check-ins, assessments, and evaluations to monitor the progress and performance of new graduate RNs.
New RN Onboarding:
- Support the onboarding process for newly hired RNs, ensuring they receive comprehensive training, orientation, and support to excel in their roles.
- Collaborate with hiring managers, preceptors, and department leaders to coordinate onboarding activities and ensure a seamless integration into the organization.
- Provide ongoing education and support to newly hired RNs to promote continuous learning and professional growth.
Program Development:
- Identify learning needs and gaps within the nursing workforce, and develop targeted educational programs and initiatives to address these needs.
- Design and implement educational workshops, training sessions, and skill-building activities to enhance the knowledge and competencies of nursing staff.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement programs focused on quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice.
Workflow Optimization:
- Evaluate existing workflows, processes, and systems to identify opportunities for improvement and efficiency.
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize workflows, streamline processes, and enhance productivity across nursing departments.
- Provide education and training to nursing staff on new workflows, technologies, and best practices to ensure successful implementation and adoption.
Quality Improvement:
- Collaborate with quality improvement teams to identify areas for improvement and develop action plans to address quality-related issues.
- Monitor and evaluate key performance indicators, clinical outcomes, and patient satisfaction metrics to assess the effectiveness of educational programs and interventions.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, committees, and projects to promote a culture of continuous improvement and excellence in patient care.

Compensation is commensurate with education and experience. Hiring compensation ranges from $33.00-$47.85 per hour. This is a non-exempt position.

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree in Nursing Education preferred.

Experience

Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience.

Required Registration/License/Certification

Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of North Carolina.
Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association is required at the time of hire.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resucitation Program (NRP) is required within one (1) year of hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong knowledge of nursing education principles and practices.
Excellent communication and teaching skills.
Competent in delivering safe and effective patient-care within legal limits of license and certifications and hospital policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the continuum of care provided in the patient care department.
Ability to demonstrate exceptional customer service to patients, family, staff, and physicians.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Physical Demands

The job may require prolonged periods of standing, walking, and/or sitting while conducting training sessions, participating in meetings, or providing clinical support.
Lifting and carrying of educational materials, equipment, or supplies may be required during training sessions or program development activities.
The RN Educator should be able to demonstrate and perform clinical skills and procedures as needed during training or clinical support sessions.
Ability to operate computer equipment and utilize software applications for educational purposes.

Working Conditions

The position primarily operates in a professional office environment within the healthcare facility, including classrooms, meeting rooms, and clinical areas.
The RN Educator may need to travel between different locations within the healthcare system to conduct training sessions, attend meetings, or provide support to various departments.
The job may involve exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous materials, and other environmental risks typical of healthcare settings.
The RN Educator should be able to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and adjusting to changing priorities.
Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to accommodate training sessions, meetings, or special events.
The position may involve interaction with patients, families, and visitors, requiring professionalism, empathy, and effective communication skills.
