UNC Health Appalachian is Hiring an Inpatient Occupational Therapist Near Boone, NC
About the Role
Watauga Medical Center is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Inpatient Occupational Therapist (OT) to join our dynamic rehabilitation team. The OT will provide comprehensive occupational therapy services to patients in an inpatient setting, aimed at improving their functional abilities and enhancing their quality of life. The ideal candidate will be skilled in developing individualized treatment plans, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, and delivering high-quality patient care.Key responsibilities include:
Assessment and Evaluation:
Conduct thorough evaluations of patients' physical, emotional, and cognitive functions.
Identify patients' needs and develop individualized treatment plans.
Treatment Planning and Implementation:
Design and implement therapeutic interventions to improve patients' ability to perform daily activities.
Utilize a variety of techniques, including exercise, manual therapy, adaptive equipment training, and environmental modifications.
Patient and Family Education:
Educate patients and their families about therapeutic activities, home exercises, and lifestyle changes to facilitate continued recovery.
Provide guidance on the use of assistive devices and adaptations to improve home and work environments.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
Communicate effectively with other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated and comprehensive patient care.
Collaboration:
Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
Professional Development:
Stay current with best practices, evidence-based treatments, and new technologies in occupational therapy.
Participate in continuing education opportunities and professional development activities.
Compliance and Safety:
Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
Compensation is commensurate with education and experience. Hiring compensation ranges from $33.00-$47.85 per hour. This position is benefits eligible after a 60-day waiting period.
Minimum Education
Minimum of Master’s Degree from an accredited university in Occupational Therapy
Experience
Satisfactory completion of student affiliations before graduation
One-year experience preferred
Required Registration/License/Certification
Licensed or eligible for licensure in North Carolina
Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association is required at the time of hire
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public, patients, family, staff, and physician and acts within the chain of command, utilizing positive verbal and non-verbal skills
Competent in delivering safe and effective patient care within legal limits of license and certifications and hospital policies and procedures
Knowledge of the continuum of care provided in the department
Ability to demonstrate exceptional customer service to patients, family, staff, and physicians
Physical Demands
Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases
Exposed to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment
Exposed to unpleasant elements (accident, injury, slippery surfaces, uneven surfaces), etc.
Handles emergency or crisis situations
Subject to irregular hours (days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays)
Working Conditions
Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases
