General Summary:
Under limited direction, the Employee Health Medical Assistant (EH MA) provides clinical and administrative functions in support of employee health services. The EH MA is accountable for completing pre-employment health screens and assisting with annual health assessments. The EH MA serves as an advocate for all employees and maintains the highest standards of excellence for professional practice, protecting employee rights and confidentiality.
Requirements:

  1. Registry or certification as a Medical Assistant required.
  2. Two years of Medical Assistant experience required. EPIC experience preferred.
  3. Tuberculin (TB) Skin Test Certification within 6 months of hire.
  4. Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) provider required.
  5. Excellent customer service skills and communication skills (oral and written) required.
  6. Ability to organize, prioritize and perform duties in an independent manner with little supervision required.
  7. Proficient computer skills.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Schedules and completes health screens for new employees.
  2. Conducts new hire and “for cause” urine drug screens in accordance with the organization and department specific protocols.
  3. Perform TB Skin Test and provides TB screenings according to established protocols and conducts post exposure management for all employees.
  4. Administers vaccines and over the counter medications to employees safely and accurately according to the protocols described in the department specific standing orders.
  5. Meets, greets, and identifies the needs of the customers, takes accurate messages, and forwards information to the appropriate person in charge of the specific service area.
  6. Conducts respirator fit testing as necessary for department specific protocols.
  7. Acts as a resource and assist employees on work related health care issues such as workers’ compensation policies and procedures. Refers questions to reliable experts in the field as appropriate.
  8. Sets up and organizes all new and existing employee health records. Maintains files and security of administrative records, employee medical records, and confidential information in Epic and incident management system. 
  9. Accurately enters orders for tests into Epic. Notifies and tracks all employees and physicians due for tests/immunizations and sends reminder letters and tracks due and overdue vaccinations, tests, etc.
  10. Works with Infection Prevention to integrate the infection control program with the employee health program, sharing new information and recommendations from CDC, OSHA and other resources and initiating appropriate follow-up for communicable disease employee exposures.
  11. Creates and maintains a database for the detailed tracking of the monthly EHS accounting statements for lab and radiology.
  12. Assist with the annual TB and Influenza vaccinations process. 
  13. Schedule and conduct annual health assessments according to departmental protocols including, but are not limited to: foodborne illness and communicable disease assessments, chemotherapy assessments and hearing tests.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned. These may include but are not limited to: maintaining a current knowledge base of department processes, protocols and procedures, pursuing self-directed learning and continuing education opportunities, and participating on committees, task forces, and work groups as determined by management.
