Umass Lowell is Hiring a Senior Data Scientist Near Lowell, MA

General Summary of Position:

The Xia laboratory within the Department of Biological Sciences, Kennedy College of Science, is seeking a data analyst with a B. S. or M.S. degree in Statistics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or similar disciplines. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team working on Alzheimer's disease and related neurologic diseases.

This position is contingent upon funding and is a part-time, benefited, union position, .50 FTE (18.75 hours/week).

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

Education:

  • B.S. or M.S. Degree in Statistics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or similar discipline

Experience:

  • Ten years of related experience including:
  • Knowledge of database structure and clinical database
  • Proficient in programming using SAS, SQL, Stata MP, or R
  • Experience in working with biological and clinical data with extensive knowledge of database structure of the Department of Veterans Affairs
  • Experience with UNIX-based systems and command-line interfaces
  • Maintenance of detailed documentation either through a laboratory notebook or well annotated scripts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to explain technical/mathematical reasoning to people from non-quantitative backgrounds
  • Highly motivated and collaborative team player

This is a Grants & Contracts (MTA/GRACE) bargaining unit position, Grade P20.
