UMA Geotechnical is Hiring a Construction Superintendent Near Colfax, NC

Job Title: Superintendent

Accountable to: General Superintendent

Department:Operations Group

FLSA Status: Full Time Exempt

Employees under their Direct Supervision: Foreman, Field Technicians

Standard Office Hours: Monday-Friday 8 am to 5 pm and other times as needed to reach goals or job duties.

Decision Making Authority: Responsible for best interests of UMA Geotechnical Construction, its clients using what has been budgeted for jobs to which they are assigned. General Superintendent’s approval required on specific matters as outlined in policies and procedures. The Superintendent is responsible for the field management of all jobsite activities under his/her direction, including equipment, work planning, interface with client, and subordinate employee management.

Position Overview: Responsible for ensuring jobs that have been entered into are completed in a manner that will meet the profitability/budget expectations and safety and quality control guidelines are followed. Responsible for job completion: executing job in a safe manner, within job specifications, innovation and flexibility on meaningful job metrics. Position requires a variety of duties associated with the management of jobs, equipment, and safety enforcement.

Position Accountabilities, Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Position requires close collaboration with: General Superintendent, Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager, and President. Interaction with client project managers as well as client foreman and third party quality control

Significant Job Duties:

When performing all job duties, performance is equally a function of:

· What gets done:

o Various Geotechnical Construction Services

· How things get done:

o Timeliness of work and control of crew and its workflow.

o Attention to detail and following approved submittals.

o Constant communication with General Superintendent on job completion.

o Teamwork, collaboration with personnel, job planning, communicating changes and problems in the field with direct supervisors to mitigate delays.

o Utilization of techniques, processes and procedures.

o Equipment monitoring and preventable maintenance.

o Timeliness of data reporting including job metrics.

o Adherence to legal, compliance, appropriate accreditation guidelines and organizational policies/procedures.

o Ensure personnel continuing education of applicable techniques and equipment that can be utilized in future endeavors.

1. Job Progression and Completion

1. Review job plans and project requirements. Communicate with General Superintendent and Project Management staff about project and required information.

2. Job site mobilization and site coordination

3. Communicate issues with General Superintendent regarding Engineering

4. Continuously document the progression of the job through photographs

5. Meet production goals set forth by each specific job.

6. Manage crew of approximately 3-15 people

7. Inform crews of daily responsibilities and goals.

8. Keep job site and trailers organized throughout the course of the project

9. Receipt and inventory of materials

10. Keep all materials organized and protected from inclement weather and theft

11. Interface with client as required to get job finished in a timely manner.

12. Demobilization of job site.

2. Equipment/Tool Responsibility

1. Make sure that all equipment is in good/safe working condition

2. Coordinate required equipment maintenance with General Superintendent/Mechanic

3. Make sure that equipment stays in operational order and protected at all times

4. Track and keep tool inventory up to date

5. Report lost or stolen items as soon as possible to General Superintendent

6. Make sure that all equipment is clean before demobilization from job

3. Safety Enforcement and Discipline

1. Instruct safety toolbox talks

2. Make sure that employees are wearing required PPE

3. Make sure that specific and proper safety training is implemented

4. Equipment orientation and training to ensure safe operation

5. Make sure that job site is organized and clean

4. Job Tracking

1. Complete daily reports

2. Complete specific job logs (grouting logs, injection logs, drill logs etc…)

3. Turn in all paperwork such as job logs as delivery tickets to Assistant Project Manger

4. Turn in all receipts to General Superintendent

Essential Skills, Experience and Expertise:

· Education: High School diploma. Technical training a plus

· Experience: 2-4 years’ experience in geotechnical field construction.

· Action oriented foresight and innovative approach to completion of job.

· Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Requires excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills. Able to effectively collaborate with diverse groups yet smoothly manages individual and group conflicts.

· Attention to Detail / Organization and Short/Long Range Goals: Excellent skills required.

· Driver’s License: Required.

· 30 Hour OSHA required within the first 12 months of employment.

· Off Road Forklift Certification required within the first 12 months of employment.

· ACI Nozzleman Certification required within the first 12 months of employment.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Work is primarily performed in an outside/field setting. Work involves numerous irregularities in schedules, overtime.

· Interaction levels with others: Requires high levels of interactions with others internal and external to the company.

· Position requires travel within service area, job location dictates mileage from home.

· Ability to work under pressure and deadlines while maintaining professional demeanor.

· Sit / Stand / Walk / Stoop: Up to 8-10 hours a day for each activity individually or combined.

· Use of Phone/ Computer /Software / Office Equipment: Up to 8-10 hours a day for each activity individually or combined.

· Climb / Pull / Lift: Up to 8-10 hours a day for each activity individually or combined. Move and lift up to 75 pounds.

· Temperatures range for work environment: Mostly typical temperatures from 0 °F to 100°F when performing tasks.

· Noise: Noise levels reflect typical field environment and may require hearing protection when using certain equipment or entering certain areas.

· Hazardous Conditions or Chemicals Exposure: Please refer to SDS sheets.

Special Position Requirements –

Travel: Potentially in excess of 95%; as dictated by job location.
Clothing: Appropriate attire that is desired for the work environment

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
