Job Description

As a Senior Underwriter in Construction Insurance, you would oversee the underwriting process for construction-related insurance policies, managing risks associated with construction projects and contractors.

This is a direct hire opportunity offering a hybrid/remote schedule.

Compensation based off of experience: $95k-135k annually.

Here are the key duties associated with this role:

  • Evaluate insurance applications and determine the level of risk associated with insuring construction projects and contractors.
  • Analyze project specifications, contractor qualifications, and other relevant information to assess risk.
  • Apply underwriting guidelines and criteria to determine eligibility for coverage and appropriate policy terms.
  • Ensure compliance with underwriting standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • Determine coverage limits, deductibles, and premiums for construction insurance policies.
  • Customize policies to address specific risks and meet the needs of insured parties.
  • Identify potential risks associated with construction projects, such as safety hazards, project delays, and cost overruns.
  • Recommend risk management strategies and mitigation measures to minimize potential losses.
  • Review loss control reports, safety protocols, and risk management practices implemented by contractors.
  • Assess the effectiveness of loss control measures in reducing the likelihood of claims.
  • Collaborate with insurance brokers or agents to gather information, negotiate terms, and finalize insurance agreements.
  • Provide guidance and support to brokers/agents regarding underwriting requirements and policy options.
  • Consult with clients directly to understand their insurance needs, address concerns, and provide recommendations.
  • Offer insights and expertise to help clients make informed decisions about coverage.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and industry stakeholders.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and resource for clients seeking insurance solutions for construction projects.
  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify trends, emerging risks, and competitive landscape in the construction insurance market.
  • Stay informed about industry developments and regulatory changes impacting construction insurance.
  • Monitor the performance of construction insurance portfolios, including premium volume, loss ratios, and profitability.
  • Analyze underwriting data to identify opportunities for portfolio optimization and risk mitigation.
  • Prepare underwriting reports, risk assessments, and presentations for senior management, underwriting committees, and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with insurance regulations, underwriting guidelines, and contractual obligations.
  • Stay updated on changes in laws, regulations, and industry standards affecting construction insurance.
  • Prepare and review insurance policies, endorsements, and other documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure adherence to policy terms, conditions, and coverage requirements.
  • Collaborate with underwriting teams, claims departments, and other internal stakeholders to facilitate cross-functional coordination and information sharing.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation in underwriting operations.
