Position SummaryThe position is responsible for the security, environmental health, & safety compliance of the University of Illinois Hospital, Outpatient Care Center (OCC), University Village offsite Ambulatory Care Clinics, Gage Park Clinic and the Specialty Care Building (SCB) including compliance with environmental, health, and safety Joint Commission Elements of Care. The Senior Director of Hospital Safety & Security coordinates the delivery of a large portfolio of EHS services performed including those under management in the MOU: EHSO's Industrial Hygienists, Biosafety Professionals, Food Sanitarians, Hazardous Materials Manager, Lab Safety Specialists, and Hospital Safety Specialist.Duties & Responsibilities• Directs the daily activities and operations of the Director of Security, Deputy Directors, and security staff/personnel in safeguarding the UIH properties, personnel, and visitors/guests, ensuring that all components of the security operations are properly trained, responsive and supportive of the needs and requirements of the University of Illinois Hospital and Clinical security operation.• Supervises the deployment and operations of the Evolve Weapons Detection System. Responsible for compliance with security requirements established by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Joint Commission and Hospital Administration. Responsible for recommendations for implementation of security, loss-prevention, crime prevention, drug diversion and related policies. Responsible for ongoing assessment, guidance and strategies related to workplace violence.• Works closely with managers, directors, and analysts to identify areas for improvement in Hospital Safety and Workplace Violence Prevention and to achieve the department’s strategic goals and objectives which include providing exceptional outcomes, creating an engaging culture, providing an ideal patient experience, planning for a safer environment, and ensuring a sustainable future.• Ensures that UI Health is compliant with all Joint Commission standards regarding the Environment of Care, Environmental Health and Safety, Nation Patient Safety Goals, and Workplace Violence including annual reviews and completion of the Focused Standards Assessment (FSA). Serves as the Safety Officer and Workplace Violence Officer as designated by the Joint Commission.• Provides supervision and direction to the Director of Security to develop, review, execute, and supervise implementation of the University of Illinois Hospital (UIH) security management plan and security operational procedures in compliance with The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System (UI Health) policies and procedures, Joint Commission standards, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and applicable federal, state, and local laws regulations.• Provides supervision and direction to the Director of Security related to assigned hospital policies to include development, reviewing, editing, and submitting for approvals. Works with Hospital, Clinic and UIC-Police administration to determine the need for, and to coordinate, programs related to the overall security and personnel safety for the University of Illinois Hospital and Clinics.• Provides supervision and direction to the Director of Security to establish, supervise crime prevention, safety workplace violence training for the hospital and clinic heads/management, staff, personnel, and department in-service.• Provides supervision and direction to the Director of Security to prepare and submit crime prevention, and security awareness materials along with related measurements and findings to the Deputy Chief of External Operations and the Chief Administrative Officer.• Provides consultation and advice regarding security measures and technology related to building renovations and/or new building construction, working with project architects, project managers, ven
