UIC is Hiring an Extra Help - Work Program Participant - Student Transition and Connects Near Chicago, IL

Position Summary
The Orientation Summer Intern will get a comprehensive understanding of what it's like to plan, implement, facilitate, and assess a summer orientation program. They will be exposed to various tasks including the execution of summer orientation programming for first year and transfer students as well as their families and guests, managing a team of about forty student leaders, and working with various academic and departmental stakeholders.

Exemplary candidates for this position will have a passion for working with and supporting the transitional needs of incoming new students (first-year and transfer) and their parents/families, a genuine interest in the work of OTR, a commitment to professionalism and high ethical standards, the ability to be adaptable and flexible to ever-changing situations, the capacity to manage multiple competing priorities, and a sense of humor which allows them to find joy in this important work.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the implementation of virtual/in-person summer orientation for new students and families
  • Training, supervision, and evaluation of a student leadership team of approximately 30-35 orientation leaders and 3 undergraduate student coordinators.
  • Presenting to new students and/or families and guests, both virtually and in-person
  • Managing relationships with departmental and academic stakeholders
  • Assisting with the management and response to difficult situations that occur during orientation programming, which may include evenings during overnight orientation sessions
  • Maintaining positive customer service when representing New Students and Family Programs
  • Other opportunities based on the goals of the intern and the approval of professional staff
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
