The Advanced PracticeRegistered Nurse (APRN) reflects the mission, vision, and values of Universityof Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System, adheres to the UI HealthCode of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevantpolicies, procedures, guidelines, and other regulatory and accreditationstandards and maintains appropriate board certification as indicated byclinical practice area. An APRN is a registered nurse and holds a master's ordoctoral degree. The APRN functions as part of the multidisciplinary healthteam in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee toprovide high-quality, cost-effective advanced nursing care to patients withinthe APRN's scope of practice. The APRN is required to have and maintain afaculty appointment in order to receive clinical privileges to practice at UIHealth. Our CRNAs hold facultyappointments with UIC College of Nursing. Annual salary range for our CRNA is$217,000 - $250,000 and signing bonus up to $15,000.

Duties &Responsibilities

Scope of Practice:

Works within the MedicalStaff Bylaws of the University of Illinois Hospital & Health SciencesSystem and in adherence to hospital and divisional policy. Works collaborativelywith other providers in the care of patients. Performs an accurate history andphysical examination of patients. Conducts comprehensive or episodic healthassessments and develops patient care plans. Performs procedures according toclinical delineation of privileges. Provides prevention strategies andmanagement of acute and chronic health problems. Orders and interprets tests,treatments, and therapies within the scope of practice. Prescribes medications,diet, supplies, prosthetic devices, and other home health aides or medicationaccording to clinical privileges. Provides clear, concise, accurate, andlegible documentation regarding patient care in the medical record. Provideseducation to patients, families, and significant others using establishededucation materials. May provide other clinical duties within the scope ofpractice as directed under the emergency operation plan. Demonstrates fiscalresponsibility to positively impact the financial performance of theorganization while ensuring optimal patient care and safety.

Integratesevidence-based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision-making.Participates in peer review and competency assessment activities. Seeksexperiences and formal and independent learning activities to maintain anddevelop clinical and professional skills and knowledge. Establishes aneffective relationship with the entire care team. May advance the profession throughpresentations and publications. May lead and assist in research and evidencebased practice through participant selection, coordination of the protocol(s),data collection, and other associated activities. Teaching:
Provides comprehensive teaching strategies forpatients and their families. May provide education and mentoring ofundergraduate and graduate students and current and new employees, includingbut not limited to medical staff, residents, advanced practice providers andnursing. May develop or participate in programs to meet continuing educationneeds of staff. Provides formal and/or informal education or mentorship to bothinternal and external groups pertinent to area of specialty. 

Communication &Leadership:

Demonstrates excellencein written and verbal communication, public speaking, presentation skills,critical thinking and decision making skills. Clearly understands theimplications of situations and uses sound judgment when dealing with multipledisciplines. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment and view successin relationship to group success. Participates in program development.Acts as a resource for clinical staff in the practice setting. Consultswith management in assessment, problem-solving, decision-making, and evaluatingclinical/system issues and models of care. Identifies and participates inquality-improvement initiatives within the practice setting and initiateschange as appropriate. Leads multidisciplinary teams to provide integrateddelivery of patient care services. May participate in the development andrevision of protocols or guidelines to reflect evidence-based changes in caremanagement. May participate in activities that influence policy-making bodiesto improve patient care.

Department/SpecialtySpecific Responsibilities:


Perform history and physical examination related to medical clearance for operative procedure. Order and evaluate non-invasive perioperative diagnostic studies. Select, order, and administer pre-anesthetic medications. Administer and/or manage general anesthesia. Administer and/or manage regional anesthesia. Administer and/or manage monitored anesthesia care (M.A.C.).
Manage post anesthetic recovery. Any other duty within the scope of practice of APRN-CRNA, as assigned by supervisor
