JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Controller assists the Controller in recording various transactions to prepares the Consolidated Financials for all the companies. The Assistant Controller performs account reconciliations and prepares adjusting journal entries. Additionally, the Assistant Controller assists the Controller with the Company's many audits – Financial, Workers’ Comp, General Liability, and Health & Welfare. The Assistant Controller is responsible for making recommendations to the Controller regarding practices and procedures. Also responsible for ensuring deadlines are met in a timely fashion.

Responsibilities

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in the preparation of the monthly Consolidated Financial Statements.
  • Performs monthly bank and GL account reconciliations.
  • Responsible for processing, reconciling, and distributing Shareholder Trust distributions for over 4,000 Shareholders when declared.
  • Process and reconcile monthly BOD Stipends.
  • Assist other departments by researching discrepancies and provide timely feedback.
  • Assist the subsidiaries as a subject matter expert in accounting matters.
  • Coordinate Federal, state, and local tax provision, estimates, extensions, and payments in conjunction with UIC tax partner for all companies.
  • Ensure that all reporting deadlines are met timely.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the Corporate Controller or Chief Financial Officer.
  • Liaison with banking partner on treasury services.
  • Prepare, maintain, and distribute monthly financial statements to all department managers.
  • Assist staff with coding and other inquiries.
  • Assist and coordinate with year-end audit between locations and auditors.
  • Assist with annual budget and controls.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Minimum of years (8) years accounting experience required.
  • Knowledge of SL Dynamics and Sage 300 experience preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint (particularly excel)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts. To receive and respond to instructions/assignments, must be able to read, write and speak English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.

Authorized Driver Requirement:

  • Employee must possess a valid driver license and pass Smith Driver Training within one year of hire.
  • Individuals with one or more serious violations (DUI/DWI) shall not be authorized to drive vehicles, including company, personal or rental cars to conduct company business.
  • Employee must follow the UIC Authorized Driver Policy and Procedures regarding approved vehicle usage.

Work Environment & Conditions:

This position is based in either Anchorage, Alaska, or Utqiaġvik, Alaska. Typical office setting in a large office building. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require frequent standing and walking. May be subject to environmental conditions of a general office setting.
