Valle Vista Health System features individual units for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors, and offers inpatient acute care, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs. On average, over 10,000 patients receive care from our compassionate health care team each year at Valle Vista Health System. We are very proud to offer a Psychiatric Nurse Residency Program for our newly licensed nurses. This program reviews and discusses important concepts integral to patient safety in the behavioral health setting and helps the new nurse understand how to apply nursing knowledge, learn new skills, and think critically. More specifically, this program will assist the newly licensed nurse to transition to a confident professional with knowledge, skills, and competence in the psychiatric behavioral health nursing arena. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing’s (NCSBN) has provided evidence that demonstrates this transition program increases new nurse competence, satisfaction and retention and decrease stress and self-reported errors. The course content is evidence-based and aimed at strengthening core competencies considered foundational to Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing.
