Position Summary: PATIENT ACCOUNT REPRESENTATIVE (COLLECTOR)

The Patient Account Representative/Collector is responsible for the billing, follow-up, and collection of assigned patient accounts by contacting patients, insurance companies and third-party payors to resolve all outstanding owed balances.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide account and billing information to patients, insurance companies and/or collection agencies.
• Ensure the effective implementation of collection measures for uncollected accounts:
  • Contact insurance company regarding billing within 15 days following billing submission, to assure that it has been received.
  • Control collection efforts of accounts in an organized, professional and efficient manner.
  • Contact third party and private payors regarding outstanding billings a minimum of once every thirty days.
  • Prepare billing correspondence within 72 hours of receipt.
  • Ensure minimum of thirty contacts are made daily and documented in computer system.
  • Complete a denial notification notice when payments are denied.
• Provide required follow-up on all patient accounts.
  • Determine a follow-up schedule for contacting patients regarding outstanding account balances on a minimum basis of once every thirty days.

Education: High School graduate or equivalent required.

Experience: A minimum of one (3) years experience in health care collections or related field, or any combination of education, training, or experience in a health care business office environment. Experience with insurance billing, computer and business software programs (Excel) preferred.

Additional Requirements: May be required to work flexible hours and occasional overtime.
