Responsibilities

Mental Health Specialist - PRN

Liberty Point Behavioral Healthcare is actively seeking highly-motivated individuals skilled in leadership and communication to fulfill the role of Mental Health Specialist. The ideal candidate will have a positive demeanor and sharp attention to detail, will demonstrate consistency and reliability, and must have a heart for helping mentally and behaviorally disabled teenage boys.

Liberty Point Behavioral Healthcare is located in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley -- a region best known for its natural beauty -- in the charming city of Staunton, Virginia. We provide trauma-informed psychiatric residential treatment to adolescent males who are experiencing complex emotional, behavioral, and educational difficulties. Our programs are specifically designed for youth with psychiatric disorders and co-occurring intellectual disabilities. We also specialize in working with young men who are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. We are a 58-bed facility (42 on campus, and 16 community-based). Our program prepares these young men for return to a home, a less restrictive environment, or to independent living. Our primary focus is on encouraging constructive change and personal growth, learning positive ways to get appropriate attention, improving behavior choices, developing a sense of responsibility for actions, learning problem-solving skills, and developing thinking patterns that support positive relationships.

Our regular shifts are:

FT: 1st Shift – (7:00am – 3:30pm) – required to work every other weekend

FT: 2nd shift – (3:00pm – 11:30pm) – required to work every other weekend

FT:  3rd shift – (11:00pm – 7:30am) – required to work every other weekend 

FT: Weekends – every Friday/Saturday/Sunday -- 12hr shifts one (1) 4hr or 8hr shift during the week M-F

FT: Weekends -- every Saturday/Sunday -- 16hr shifts one (1) 8hr shift during the week M-F

PT: Weekends – every Saturday/Sunday -- 8hr shifts one (1) 8hr shift during the week M-F

PT: Weekends – every Saturday/Sunday -- 12hr shifts 

PRN: Weekends -- 8hr or 12hr shifts

  • We offer flexible scheduling options with no mandates
  • Part-Time and PRN positions do not qualify for sign-on bonus or benefits
  • We try to accommodate shift preference, however not all shifts are available at all times

Job Description & Essential Duties:

  • Provide direct supervision and care for intellectually disabled adolescents in a residential setting
  • Provide daily living skills direction, examples, and demonstration to residents at different levels of ability
  • Provide positive and appropriate intervention, limit-setting, response, problem-solving, and guidance when needed
  • Provide effective, accurate, and legible documentation in a timely fashion
  • Demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and follow-thru with resident treatment plans and interventions
  • Respond to children in a caring, mature manner while demonstrating sound professional boundaries with both residents and staff
  • Serve as a role model for residents and other staff
  • Assist in management of aggressive behavior
Qualifications

Successful candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services field of study
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Preferred: Hold a valid driver's license with a clean driving record

Successful candidates must also be able to:

  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds,
  • Effectively use the full range of body motion, - sit, bend, kneel or stand for more than an hour if needed.
  • Reflect behavior, attitude, and appearance appropriate to the position and be supportive of the facility and division philosophy, goals, and objectives
  • Successfully complete and pass all components of Handle With Care & Verbal De-escalation Crisis Intervention Training,
  • Effectively perform facility approved First Aid and CPR techniques (CPR, First Aid, and HWC training will be obtained during new employee orientation)

Pay is Hourly (bi-weekly) and is commensurate with education and experience.
