Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) / Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) Registered Nurse 

Full Time - Days/Nights (Varies)

Are you a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse with a passion for providing exceptional care to patients in critical conditions? The George Washington University Hospital is seeking a compassionate Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) / Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) Nurse to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in caring for patients recovering from cardiovascular and thoracic surgeries. Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care: Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in the CVICU/CTICU, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and implementing physician orders.
  • Critical Thinking: Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team. Demonstrate critical thinking skills in managing complex medical and surgical conditions.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with physicians, cardiothoracic surgeons, anesthesiologists, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and effective patient care.
  • Monitoring: Utilize advanced monitoring equipment to assess and interpret cardiac rhythms, hemodynamic parameters, and other relevant data. Respond promptly to changes in patient status.
  • Patient and Family Education: Provide comprehensive education to patients and their families regarding postoperative care, medications, and potential complications. Offer emotional support and guidance during the recovery process.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including nursing assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
  • Quality Improvement: Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and contribute to the continuous improvement of nursing practices within the CVICU/CTICU.
Qualifications
  • Active state RN license or DC eligible
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program with a current RN license.
  • BSN required, or to enroll and obtain within 3 years. 
  • Min. 1 year full time experience or 2 years part time experience in Acute Care ICU settings
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • ATCN / TCAR certification within 1 year
