Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist, 33 Lewis Rd United Health Services is seeking a Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist to join our Lewis Rd Clinical Documentation Improvement department at 33 Lewis Rd in Binghamton, NY. This is a Per Diem position. Shift: All Shifts Hours per week: 0 Salary range: $21.80 - 32.60 USD per hour, depending on experience. Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist / Overview Facilitates improvement in the quality, completeness, and accuracy of clinical documentation. Obtains appropriate clinical documentation through extensive interaction with physicians, nursing and other patient caregivers and the Health Information Management coding staff to ensure that the complete and accurate level of services provided is documented and that appropriate reimbursement is received for patients with a DRG, MS-DRG, APR or All-Payer based grouper. Educates members of the patient care team on documentation guidelines on an ongoing basis. Works closely with coding supervisor. Key Responsibilities and Expectations Education/Experience Minimum Required: RHIT certification with an Associate degree in HIT. One year of coding experience. Preferred: RHIA certification with a Bachelor’s Degree in HIT. Two (2) years inpatient coding experience. Five (5) years auditing experience in the health care field. Work Environment For home based coders, work performed in the home setting where the employee utilizes an efficient work space with quiet surroundings and adequate lighting. The employee is required to be self-disciplined and motivated with the ability to stay focused with minimal home-bound interruptions. For office based coders, employees utilize a work space, however they are in close quarters with other co-workers. For unit based CDI team, floors have close quarters, frequent interruptions, and often require standing at an available desk space. Although interruptions are expected, a quiet environment is conducive to an effective work setting. Office is heated as well as air conditioned. Employees in this position are required to have an ergonomically correct workstation with frequent short breaks for optimal performance.
