General Summary

The Product Design Engineer is responsible for managing product development projects with multiple internal and external contacts to successfully commercialize new products.

This position works under general supervision; relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals; and requires a wide degree of creativity and autonomy to perform the job.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform analyses to determine proof of concept, product attributes, target markets, competition, and compatibility with UFP sales, manufacturing and distribution capabilities.

• Determine product requirements including features, design attributes, and testing requirements.

• Work with product management, sales and manufacturing to develop and build prototypes that meet product and quality requirements.

• Collaborate with outside manufacturers and vendors on sourcing, product attributes and testing.

• Collaborate with manufacturing plants to jointly develop products.

• Write and edit drafts of marketing material including packaging, features & benefits, installation instructions and brochures.

• Coordinate with engineering on product design, code compliance and testing.

• Coordinate with legal on distribution and IP related matters.

• Coordinate with marketing communications on product marketing collateral.

• Performs other duties as required.

Job Specifications

Knowledge Required

• Requires bachelor's degree in related discipline or equivalent.

• Minimum five years of product development experience or UFP employee with relevant product experience.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint and Outlook.

• Working knowledge of CAD systems, SolidWorks experience preferred.
