General Summary
The Product Design Engineer is responsible for managing product development projects with multiple internal and external contacts to successfully commercialize new products.
This position works under general supervision; relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals; and requires a wide degree of creativity and autonomy to perform the job.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Perform analyses to determine proof of concept, product attributes, target markets, competition, and compatibility with UFP sales, manufacturing and distribution capabilities.
Determine product requirements including features, design attributes, and testing requirements.
Work with product management, sales and manufacturing to develop and build prototypes that meet product and quality requirements.
Collaborate with outside manufacturers and vendors on sourcing, product attributes and testing.
Collaborate with manufacturing plants to jointly develop products.
Write and edit drafts of marketing material including packaging, features & benefits, installation instructions and brochures.
Coordinate with engineering on product design, code compliance and testing.
Coordinate with legal on distribution and IP related matters.
Coordinate with marketing communications on product marketing collateral.
Performs other duties as required.
Job Specifications
Knowledge Required
Requires bachelor's degree in related discipline or equivalent.
Minimum five years of product development experience or UFP employee with relevant product experience.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Working knowledge of CAD systems, SolidWorks experience preferred.
