The surgical technologist lead (STL) role is for a highly developed surgical technologist who has advanced training and experience in the surgical service specialty line. The focus of this position is on surgical preparation for all surgical cases within a surgical service line. The STL partners with surgical staff to provide a multitude of clinical practice duties including, but not limited to the following:

• Coordination of equipment, instrumentation and supply needs for surgical cases within the service.
• Coordinating and assisting with case turnover and case preparation, patient positioning, prepping for the surgical procedure, draping and scrubbing as necessary.
• Maintaining current knowledge of procedures, instruments and equipment.
• Monitors quality control, function and repair of devices used within the service.
• Coordinating and leading staff with clinical education within the service, including orientation.
• Serving as a resource for best practice.
• Anticipating surgical needs by reviewing the operating room schedule in advance.
• Responsible for service line efficiency (i.e., turnover, start time).
• Utilizing resources effectively with a focus on cost containment (i.e., overtime, reducing cost per case).

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

• Graduate from an accredited surgical technologist training program.
• Minimum of 12 months in clinical specialty.
• Certification (NBSTSA) required or obtained within 1 year of hire.
• Five years of experience in Shands surgical setting may qualify in lieu of surgical technologist training and certification.
• Experience with multidisciplinary teams that have demonstrated excellence in patient care.
