UF Health is Hiring an Associate Director Operational Effectiveness I Operational Effectiveness Near Gainesville, FL

Job Opening Summary

Responsible for supporting the achievement of organizational goals. Applies extensive knowledge of performance improvement; lean management practices, methodologies and philosophies; program management; and change management. Responsible for planning and directing major operational improvement/management engineering consulting projects to improve the operating performance of UF Health Shands Hospital, the UF faculty practice and the College of Medicine (COM). Oversees a team of management engineers and improvement specialists. The Operational Effectiveness team provides support to the organization in the following areas:

  • Facilitating focused improvement efforts;
  • Training managers, leaders, staff and providers on performance improvement tools, thinking and methods;
  • Coaching leaders and managers on operational improvement tools, thinking and methods;
  • Leading and coordinating operational improvement teams; and
  • Reporting and analyzing data used to identify improvement opportunities and/or evaluate the impact of implemented improvements.

This position serves as an internal consultant, program manager and capacity builder for leadership, management, staff and physicians in driving sustainable operational improvements. Develops and implements infrastructure to support selection of projects with organizational impact. Documents and measures results and performs look-backs to identify lessons learned. Supports and coaches staff and operational improvement teams, helping to identify priorities, find and implement synergies among the group, maintain open communication, oversee project progress and assist in reaching successful outcomes.

Job Opening Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, operations management, organizational dynamics, health care administration, business or another related field is required.
  • MSIE or MBA/MHA or equivalent preferred.
  • A minimum of seven years' experience in management engineering, industrial engineering, operations improvement, performance improvement activities or health care consulting in a hospital system or academic medical center is required.
  • A minimum of five years of operational and management experience in a health care setting strongly preferred.
  • This position requires an individual who is a self-starter, has the ability to manage multiple priorities and work with only general supervision on assigned projects and activities, demonstrates tact and diplomacy in situations of conflict and controversy and demonstrates excellent communication and presentation skills to all levels of the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to coach managers, physicians and staff.
  • Required knowledge of performance improvement methodologies and analytics, including PDCA/PDSA, process improvement techniques, value stream mapping, root cause analysis, graphic and display tools and/or Six Sigma.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability and enthusiasm for working at high levels and in detail-oriented environements with a clear demonstration of experience working with front line staff and a willingness to both direct and do the work of improvement.

Motor Vehicle Operator Designation:

  • Employees in this position will operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose as a "non-frequent driver."

NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job.

Minimum Pay Rate - Hourly: $46.17 Midpoint Pay Rate - Hourly: $62.43
