The critical care ground emergency medical technician-driver (CCGEMT) is responsible for assisting with, or independently providing, direct patient care to those individuals assigned to them by the paramedic or registered nurse. Those services shall be provided in a manner that displays compassion, caring and respect. The CCGEMT is responsible for safe ground ambulance transport of interfacility patients, transport crew members, organ procurement teams and medical equipment. The CCGEMT must be effective with communication skills and able to work positively in a high-stress environment with patients, peers, families and other internal and external personnel. The CCGEMT must also possess excellent interpersonal skills as s/he is instrumental in providing community outreach and education. The CCGEMT is responsible for carrying out the mission and goals of Shands HealthCare/ShandsCair, ensuring that safety remains the highest priority throughout the transport continuum.

Motor Vehicle Operator Designation:
NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job.
