The clerk/patient care assistant (CPCA) functions as an assistant to the registered nurse by performing routine procedures under his or her supervision. The CPCA provides general clerical support to customers of a patient care unit by functioning as a receptionist, transcriber, monitor of medical records, and information/communication specialist.
