JOB DUTIES

To assist Commercially insured and Medicare patients in the Emergency Department to arrange follow-up care with UF PCP’s and UF specialists as needed. To direct to other services on campus as needed. To act as ombudsman during time in Emergency Department.

Essential Functions

• Identify and assist Medicare and Commercially insured patients seen in the Emergency Department by arranging follow up care with UF providers as ordered.

• Communicate on behalf of patients with UF providers if the patient is already within the system.

• Use Patient Access Center protocols to arrange appointments within Epic scheduling system.

• Inform and help direct patients to additional UF services beyond those directly related to current visit needs.

• Provide educational materials regarding UF services, locations, etc.

• Intercede on the patient’s behalf as necessary to arrange for special services, i.e. interpreters for both the hearing impaired as well as those with language barriers, wheel chairs and other special transportation needs.

• Act as patient advocate and assist patient and family with non-medical needs while at hospital – directing to cafeteria, chapel, etc., as needed.

• Assist with identification of patient’s PCP.
