UCP of Long Island is Hiring a Community Relations Specialist Near Hauppauge, NY

United Cerebral Palsy of Long Island is a not-for-profit healthcare agency servicing the needs of children and adults with developmental disabilities for over 75 years! Come join our team and help to make a difference in someone's life!

We currently have an opening in our Development and Public Relations Department located in Hauppauge for a full-time Community Relations Specialist.

General Purpose of the Job:

Promotes the Agency, abilities of individuals we serve, accomplishments of staff, special events and fundraising activities. Manages all media relations and agency wide communication programs; promotes the agency in the community and initiates public relations programs and campaigns.

  • Develops a content mission marketing plan and editorial calendar that advances our mission and creates opportunities for cultivation across all mediums. Manages marketing of special events, through social media, website and newsletter. Cultivates relationship with media outlets for agency coverage. Otain media sponsorship of events.
  • Creates engaging and sharable content for social media platforms, quarterly newsletters and/or promotional video. Maintain the agency social media presence across all platforms.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers, committees, government officials and media reps and uses these relationships to develop new business opportunities.
  • Writes interesting and effective press releases, prepares information for media kits and develop and maintain company web pages.
  • Manages media inquiries and interview requests.
  • Attend corporate and public events.
  • Perform research for potential grant opportunities.
  • Photography skills helpful.

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor's Degree from a 4 year college or university; or 3-5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must have excellent writing and communication skills and knowledge of Contact Management systems, Database software, Development Software, Spreadsheet software and Word processing software.
