UCP of Central Florida is Hiring a Teacher - Elementary (Low Ratio) Near Lake, FL

Looking to make a difference in an innovative and dynamic inclusive charter school network? UCP Charter Schools are a network of 8 PreK-12th grade schools for students with and without disabilities in Central Florida.

UCPs instructional approach is designed to reach every learner through customized instruction, technology integration, art integration, and project-based learning. Each UCP campus has a unique community feel, with low student/instructor ratios and inclusive classrooms where children with and without disabilities learn and grow together.

Job Summary:

The Teacher Elementary ESE Self Contained Classroom facilitates the critical role of being the instructional leader in the classroom of approximately 9-12 students exhibiting significant behaviors that interfere with their own learning or that of their peers. These students require placement in a more supportive environment, specifically an ESE Self-contained classroom, which represents a more restrictive educational setting.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Follows and applies all Danielson instructional framework protocols to provide best instructional practices to ensure learning for all students.
    • Planning and preparation.
    • Classroom environment.
    • Instruction.
    • Professional responsibilities.
  • Participates as an integral member of the IEP team, creating drafts for IEP goals utilizing data collected from the classroom, parents, therapists and other members of the IEP team.
  • Collect and use data to determine the effects of learning experiences on student’s development and approaches to learning and adapt as needed. Maintains a portfolio with samples of students’ work, records observed progress, uses observational data to plan individualized and differentiated instructional strategies and appropriately follows Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  • Provide instruction in both standard and modified curriculum pathways/Access Points
  • Assess and use data from both standard and modified assessment pathways.
  • Facilitate and lead classroom teams through the development and implementation of functional behavior assessments/behavior interventions plans and crisis plans for identified students.
  • Provide social skills instruction to students utilizing research-based methodologies and approved district curricula.
  • Implement and coach classroom personnel on research-based methods of classroom management and behavioral strategies.
  • Complete all reporting requirements as mandated by the district, state, federal, and educational agencies (i.e. restraint and seclusion, assessments, behavioral data).
  • Collect behavioral data.
  • Assist with student crisis intervention.
  • Use and model research-based classroom management and individualized behavioral interventions.
  • Clearly communicates with families regarding students’ progress, actively involves family members in planning strategies for enhancing student’s progress and maintains a positive, collaborative relationship with students’ families.
  • Participates in team meetings/professional learning and school-based activities.
  • Maintains a classroom that reflects discovery and use of materials and is clean and well maintained. Harmful cleaning supplies and other hazardous materials are not accessible to children, universal precautions are used appropriately and consistently, and responds quickly and appropriately to all accidents/incidents including documentation.
  • Demonstrates attention to punctuality, attendance, deadlines (Individual Education Plan/Individual Family Support Plans expiration/review, progress reports, testing/assessment), compliance with policies and procedures, Code of Ethics, and exercises appropriate professional judgment and other elements of the Florida Educators Accomplished Practices.
  • Ensure and provide basic care giving duties (utilizing universal health and safety precautions) for students.
  • Applies local and state approved protocols integrating technology and making necessary modifications to media and technology to accommodate all students’ needs.
  • Integrates art into curriculum and learning experiences including necessary modifications to accommodate all students’ needs.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Training: (or equivalent)

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

  • Training in applied behavior analysis or agreement to complete the LEA approved training within a designated time frame.
  • Training in LEA approved positive behavioral strategies used to prevent or deescalate behavior or an agreement to complete the training within a designated time frame

OR

Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.

Certification:

Florida Professional Teaching Certificate Elementary Education or PreK-3rd (based on grades taught)

AND

Exceptional Education Endorsement and ESOL Endorsement (or in process)

Prefer: Autism Endorsement

Minimum Experience:

  • Prefer 1 to 3 years teaching experience in a similar setting.
  • Experience working with children with a variety of behavior needs.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws related to exceptional student education.
