DescriptionPerforms hand and arm scrub according to Department Policy and Procedure. Dons a sterile gown and gloves. Sets up instrumentation and equipment as dictated by Department guidelines. Performs counts with the circulating nurse before, during, and after the procedure as required. Assists surgeons with gown and glove, and after skin preparation is completed, assists with the draping. Safely passes instruments, sponges, and sutures during the procedure. Maintains the sterile field and ensures that all members of the team adhere to specific techniques. Verifies and prepares medications and solutions to be administered within the sterile field, and maintains an accurate accounting of amounts used. Handles all specimens in an appropriate fashion: specimen name, body location, and proper disposition. Provides safe patient care and maintains patient dignity. Assists in application dressings and casts. Handles all instrumentation in a careful manner. Upon completion of the procedure, prepares instruments and equipment for cleaning. Assists with operating room clean-up following the Universal Precautions. Proficient in scrubbing in one or more specialty services.
