Under supervision, independently perform molecular and biochemical experiments to study neuron-glia interactions in genetic mouse models and human IPSC-derived neurons and astrocytes. Provide unique skills in molecular cloning, virus production, and recombinant protein production including of nanobodies and essential enzymes. Learn new skills related to protein fractionation, flow cytometry, and working with proteomics collaborators for sample submission. Assist in routine cell culture and genotyping efforts and provide guidance to and oversee other trainees in these efforts. Operate and maintain specialized laboratory equipment, including installation and maintenance and coordinate maintenance contracts. Responsible for laboratory environmental health and safety activities, including radioactivity waste, chemical waste, and biological disposal and for lab inventory an ordering of supplies and equipment. Organize and maintain research database. Participate in planning, decision making and contribute important original ideas pertaining to the planning, development, modification and execution of new and ongoing studies.
Strong theoretical background and knowledge in molecular biology and biochemistry, especially molecular cloning, recombinant protein production, and protein analysis. Two years practical laboratory experience in human genetics and molecular biology laboratory. Independent research experience.
Demonstrated ability to contribute original project development ideas and their implementation into research.
Demonstrated experience preparing and maintaining tissue cultures. Working knowledge of sterile techniques and culture media/ reagents.
Demonstrated knowledge and ability to care for and handle small lab animals.
Demonstrated experience and ability to perform standard repetitive techniques that may be required in research protocols related to specific lab. Demonstrated ability to read, interpret and apply protocols in conducting research. Demonstrated ability in following step wise experimental protocols. Skill to troubleshoot adaptations of experimental protocols.
Strong computer skills with proven ability to effectively use database and spreadsheet software. Working knowledge of computer applications, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, internet browsers.
Enthusiasm for learning and a genuine interest in scientific research. Willingness and ability to learn new skills, research methods, and scientific principles.
Outstanding organizational skills and ability to prioritize work. Demonstrated ability to be well organized in execution of complex experiments with attention to details. Demonstrated skill in accurate record keeping and ability to organize, analyze, and calculate data.
Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work in a laboratory environment which interacts with large number of research and technical personnel and other laboratories. Ability and willingness to work independentlyand/or in a team framework in conjunction with principles of community.
Excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills that facilitate professional, effective, and courteous interaction with a diverse population. Ability to interact professionally and effectively in the work environment, as well as accurately document research procedures paying close attention to details.
Demonstrated ability to follow established Safety and Biohazardous Materials Guidelines.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $64,506 - $103,727 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $30.89 - $49.68
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
