DESCRIPTION

Under supervision, assist with preparation and execution of experiments using biological and chemical materials. Tasks will include preparation of standardized media and reagents; upkeep of laboratory apparatus and facilities; ordering and organization of laboratory supplies; record-keeping and organization of experimental outputs onthe laboratory computer notebook and databases. The assistant will have an opportunity to observe and assist senior laboratory members with experiments involving cell culture, PCR, specimen sectioning, molecular cloning, and gel electrophoresis. Perform all other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and one year of laboratoryexperience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

  • Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal protocols, techniques, and instructions.

  • Demonstrated organizational skills to order and maintain lab reagents and supplies, and keepaccurate lab records and computer files.

  • Demonstrated experience making decisions, analyzing situations, problem solving, and initiating action for laboratory maintenance.

  • Willingness to learn new theory, techniques, and tasks and share knowledge.

  • Ability to accurately organize, store, and retrieve samples, chemicals, and supplies.

  • Ability to read, comprehend, discuss, and present research materials.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $40,340 - $46,771 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $19.32 - $22.40

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
