Responsibilities

The Clinical Informatics Specialist will report directly to the Population Health Informatics Supervisor and be an integral part of the Population Health and Accountable Care Team. This role will participate in projects of critical and strategic importance to the organization, collaborating with key business, technical and clinical staff to plan and deploy enterprise data assets in support of these projects. This includes requirements gathering, data retrieval from a variety of clinical and financial data sources, validation, curation, and translation of data into informative and actionable visualizations. The position supports population health efforts to redesign care pathways, care gap closure outcomes, and process reporting dashboards. This role is responsible for tracking, trending, monitoring, reporting, and communicating results in multiple external and internal environments to improve the quality and efficiency of care delivered for our patients. UC Davis Population Health team evaluates clinical, financial, and environmental factors to identify and address barriers to optimal health for our attributed patients, identifies and prioritizes improvement opportunities, and implements and evaluates efficacy of system efforts.

Candidate should have the ability to travel to all clinics both on campus (UCDH) and to all the Community Physician practices (greater Sacramento area).


Required Qualifications

  • 4 years of experience of advanced database application development and administration, programming languages (SQL) using various programs to create/modify databases, integrating multiple large datasets, create custom reports, filters, linkage, forms and ability to export data in various formats to generate custom reports utilizing various software programs.
  • Advanced experience with clinical EHR.
  • 4 years of experience using Tableau, Oracle SQL and/or Microsoft SQL.
  • Excellent analytical skills to develop and/or comprehend complex technical, clinical, research and fiscal information.
  • Understanding of data collection and management, statistics, study design, dashboard design/development and quality improvement methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully plan and lead projects in all steps of health analytics, transform gathering customer requirements to creating and documenting visualizations or other information delivery mechanisms.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including large group presentation development and delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical judgement, problem solving, creativity, innovation, analytical organization, priority setting and leadership.
  • Ability to function effectively with the Chief of Population Health and Accountable Care, Ambulatory leadership, and other key Medical Center executive leadership to ensure program effectiveness.
  • Expert clinical knowledge of healthcare delivery systems with current quality and safety improvement tools and techniques.
  • Knowledge of strategic planning concepts to assess internal and external environments.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of medical diagnostic and procedural terminology.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience in Health informatics, Public Health or Healthcare Administration.
  • Certification in Epic applications: Cogito, Clarity, and/or Caboodle.
  • Prior experience in clinical quality improvement or research projects.
  • Prior experience using Optum tools such as OPA and the UC wide OMOP data systems.


Special Requirements
