UBMD Pediatrics is Hiring a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (Endocrinology) Near Buffalo, NY

Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant - Endocrinology

General Summary: Responsible for providing care services to patients with Endocrine disorders, obesity, and diabetes, including assessing, diagnosing, prescribing, treating, and educating patients. Works closely with physicians and other clinicians in a team approach to patient care. Additional responsibilities include maintenance and revision of clinic forms, patient teaching material, including waiting room materials. Completion of various forms that patients may need for outside entities and other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-site direct professional services to patients of the UBMD Pediatrics Endocrine/Diabetes Clinics with a minimum of 6 half-day sessions per week.
  • Obtain and utilize Certified Diabetes Educator certification.
  • Assess patient status by obtaining health history through patient/family interviews and chart reviews; assessing presenting illness, risk factors, family history, and cultural factors; and performing appropriate physical examination of which UBMD Pediatrics will bill the professional component.
  • Complete Electronic Medical Record (“EMR”) of each patient encounter within 72 hours of clinic visit. Complete billing encounter information in the EMR for each patient by the time of discharge from clinic.
  • Order/perform appropriate laboratory, diagnostic, and other screening tests. Seeks other information as needed, including consultation with physicians and other clinicians, for evaluation of illness. Integrates data to determine diagnosis and therapeutic plan, including identification of any health risks.
  • Triage patient calls and provides consultation. Provide follow up on all patient labs and clinic visits.
  • Develop and implement treatment plan by prescribing/dispensing medications and/or injections in compliance with medical practice guidelines and state laws. Instructs patient/family regarding medications and treatments.
  • Prepare documentation for medical records including updating patient medical chart by posting examination and test results, diagnosis, medications, and treatment in written/computerized manner.
  • Participate in peer reviews, chart reviews, staff education, clinical guideline development, and other continuing education and quality assurance activities to demonstrate compliance with standards, regulations, policies, and procedures. Act as consultant/collaborator to clinical team on area of specialty. Comply with patient confidentiality requirements. Promote patient advocacy.
  • Collaborate with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patient. Provide monitoring and continuity of care between visits according to treatment plan including triaging patient calls and provides consultation.
  • Maintain and review patient records, charts, and other pertinent information. Reviews and communicates test and examination results to physicians and patient families.
  • Perform inpatient consultations in collaboration with the on-service attending. Document in the medical records to facilitate billing and documentation for Kaleida.
  • Coordinate home care services, labs, care, and prescriptions for patients.
  • Perform related work as required.

Additional Job Responsibilities

· Willing to provide off-site professional services to patients of the UBMD Pediatrics clinics and/or contracted services as needed by the Division of Endocrinology.

· Act as a sub-investigator for clinical research studies with delegation of duties to include recruitment, appropriate physical examinations, adverse event assessments, development of therapeutic plans, and interpretation of labs under the supervision of the principal investigator.

Education: BSN required, MSN preferred. Successful completion of advanced practitioner training and certification as a practitioner (general or specialized) from an approved pediatric nurse practitioner program. MA physician assistant and approved NYS licensure.

Experience: Minimum three years of professional experience in a Pediatric clinic setting. Professional experience in an endocrine/diabetes setting preferred.

Other Requirements: Current state registered nurse license. Current state license as an advanced registered nurse practitioner or physician assistant with prescriptive authority. Current CPR certification.

Performance Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

· Knowledge of advanced practice of nursing including anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology and therapeutics, basic nutrition, behavioral factors, psychosocial/family systems, diagnostic testing, interpretation of results and clinical decision making, alternative treatment modalities.

· Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices and regulations related to evaluating and providing patient care, and professional ethics related to the delivery of nursing care.

· Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments used to administer patient care.

· Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment.

· Knowledge of health promotion, health risk identification, and patient education principles and techniques.

· Knowledge of community, professional, and educational resources.

· Skill in oral and written communication including interviewing to gather medical histories; providing presentations, consultations, facilitation, and documentation, e.g., writing medical orders, patient education materials, and medical record updates. May require skill in using computerized health information management systems.

· Skill in case management, time management, problem solving, crisis intervention, multitasking, and other organizational matters.

· Skill in modifying methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide appropriate nursing care and in initiating appropriate emergency response and investigatory procedures.

· Ability to analyze complex data and draw conclusions.

· Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.

· Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, clinical staff, and the public.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $105,000.00 - $114,000.00 per year
