Uber is Hiring a Public Policy Manager, Work and Economic Policy Near San Francisco, CA

About the Team

The Central Public Policy Team has a global remit and is tasked with developing solutions to policy opportunities and regulatory challenges in issue domains that impact on Uber's global business. Working closely with on-the-ground Public Affairs and Government Relations and cross-functional partners we develop best in class policy solutions backed by thorough research and data. The team also provides strategic advice and guidance to Tech and Product organizations as well as key executives in the execution of Uber's business goals.

This role is based in Uber’s headquarters in San Francisco.

About the Role

As Public Policy Manager (Work and Economic Policy), you will develop our global narrative, public policy positions and global strategy on strategic policy issues related to driver and courier well-being and independent work. You will build the evidence base that will help Uber gain support from key external stakeholders as well as partner with Uber’s public policy teams around the world to promote effective policy development and advocacy.

What You’ll Do

  • Create and execute compelling data-driven narratives and strategies that will resonate will target policy audiences, balancing global consistency with local realities and aligning community expectations with business needs.
  • Act as a key partner and special adviser to Uber leaders on the ground on policy development and advocacy strategies.
  • Initiate and deliver new programs and studies to build credibility and grow reputation on work and labor issues.
  • Build trust with external parties, including executing strategies of engagement.
  • Demonstrate thought leadership when it comes to hard policy issues such as driver and courier earnings or improving social protection for independent workers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years experience in public affairs, government, law, economic research or corporate communications within companies, national or international public institutions, consultancies, law firms or trade associations.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exceptional communication skills (writing and verbal), with a strong ability to structure content and distill sophisticated ideas into concise clear language for a broad audience.
  • Creativity and drive: Ability to identify and execute imaginative paths forward in the face of hard policy challenges.
  • Expertise and enthusiasm for engaging in in-depth research, economic and data analysis on nuanced policy topics.
  • Demonstrated strategic sense: Ability to connect the dots between different issues and zooming out to build globally relevant tactics and storytelling.
  • Strong political acumen and interest in economic and social issues.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to operate in an international environment.
  • Project management skills desired.
  • Advanced degree (e.g., Master’s degree, JD, MPP, MBA) preferred.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$152,000 per year - USD$169,000 per year.
