UATX's Centers of Inquiry: As part of our reenvisioning of the academic model of higher education, UATX will be organized around five Centers of Inquiry: (1) The Center for Politics, Economics and Applied History; (2) The Center for Mathematics, Engineering and Technology; (3) The Center for Arts and Letters; (4) The Center for Theoretical and Experimental Science; and (5) The Center for Education and Public Service. These Centers differ from traditional academic departments in that while forming academic units, they will also serve as interdisciplinary research institutes, think tanks, and entrepreneurial incubators. The Centers will host undergraduates as junior fellows in their third and fourth years of study, be home to graduate programs, and will be staffed by transdisciplinary faculty drawn from both inside and outside the academy. The Directors of our Centers of Inquiry will form an integral part of our senior leadership team.

Job Summary: The core responsibilities and qualities of a successful candidate for this position include:

• The entrepreneurial and visionary spirit necessary to design and build a Center of Inquiry from the ground up.
• The capacity to innovate in ways that will renew higher education.
• An eagerness to collaborate with the dynamic UATX founding team in developing all aspects of the university.
• A willingness to fundraise and the ability to inspire in our stakeholders a commitment to our mission and vision.
• Initial tasks include program and curricular design, accreditation work and faculty recruitment. Student recruitment will take place in fall 2023 for the class starting in fall 2024.

• Significant academic and/or professional accomplishment aligned with the focus of the Center.
• A demonstrated capacity for leadership.
• A robust commitment to the principles of open inquiry and civil discourse.
• Ability to start and to relocate to Austin within a reasonable timeframe.
