Peer Support Specialist Coordinator
The Peer Support Program Coordinator reports directly to the Program Manager or Executive Director at the applicable U.S.VETS site and is responsible for the coordination of the peer support program, working collaboratively as a member of a team to provide support, mentorship and guidance to challenged veterans adjusting to civilian life in the community. This position helps veterans enroll into the peer support training program and then placed into jobs.
Responsibilities:
  • Assists with the development of a therapeutic milieu in accordance with the United States Veterans Initiative Mission and Philosophy and are consistent with funder priorities.
  • Acts as a conduit for U.S.VETS to ensure engagement and coordination with partners, such as county government agencies, community organizations and programs for service-delivery for veterans through the peer support program.
  • Work directly with the Peer Support Specialist training school to counsel students, identify and recruit potential student placements, participate in Peer Career Expos, and monitor employment for six months once placed to ensure sustainability and mitigate retention challenges.
  • Maintains a comprehensive list of employers and service providers to connect peer support specialists to employment.
  • Provide referrals to U.S.VETS or outside programs for any veterans in need of other services such as housing, recovery and mental health counseling.
  • Uses innovative, evidence-based and community-identified strategies to support peer support specialists to meet projected grant deliverable of obtaining and sustaining employment.
  • Collaborate with staff at partnering training organization, for application management, data collection and entry, and other grant/program functions.
  • Responsible for quarterly reports, corrective action plans, as well as reports for other Peer Support Specialist funders and organizational weekly, monthly and year-end reports, ensuring consistency with work plan and funders schedules.
  • Conducts internal audits of client files of the peer support specialists and participates in monitoring visits.
  • Participate in employment related committees in L.A. County, such as the USC Collaborative and the L.A. Veterans Employment Council.
  • Coordinates Career Fairs and Informational events with perspective peer support specialists and employers.
  • Maintains and submits weekly schedules, timesheets, mileage logs, expenses and other required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Attends team meetings as scheduled.
  • Handles special projects as required
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications
Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree in social services field or comparable related field required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience in a related field. Two years of employment at U.S.VETS may substitute for supervisory experience.
  • Lived experienced of veteran affairs preferred, including veteran status, family member of military or knowledge of military culture.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of clients, staff, and community members.
  • Leadership and conflict management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstration of personal and financial integrity in the workplace.
  • Ability to take direction, work independently with minimal oversight, and to work within a team.
  • Valid drivers license required. If driving company vehicles, must meet company insurance requirements and complete a provided driver training course.
